I hate the ambiguity in the flagrant foul rules. A Flagrant 1 is for unnecessary contact, and Flagrant 2 is unnecessary and excessive. The word unnecessary makes no sense. Isn't contact during all fouls "unnecessary"? To me flagrant fouls are called on excessive contact. And flagrant 2 are called on excessive and intentionally dangerous contact.
Chris Anderson's foul against Hansbrough was excessive. By all interpretations of the word I have seen used. I think that should have been a flagrant 1 in a game of basketball, but based on reading the rules that should be a flagrant 2.
It just annoys me when I see that graphic on TNT every time they review a flagrant foul, describing the fouls and it never matches up with how the foul is called.
I was watching with a friend and he isn't a sports/basketball fan, he saw that graphic, and immediately said it was obviously a flagrant 2 because it was obviously excessive. I then had to tell him that the rule isn't enforced as written.
Well, that is my rant for the night.
It was a great performance by LeBron. I was glad to see him take charge, and to stop whining and flopping and just play as the best player in the game, which he is currently. I think the Pacers come back strong in game 6. I hope they force 7, but even if they come out strong, it will be close as long as that LeBron shows up.
