Explosions at Boston Marathon

Crime shows on TV make it all look so easy, the cameras on every corner, DNA results in about 10 minutes, immediate facial recognition hits, and that cool really big computer table thing on Hawaii Five-O. Real life takes a while. If the CF crack forensics team solves this though, maybe we'll get our own show.

Exactly, if only things were as easy as they show on tv.

Take in to account that this person is capable of committing such an act then you throw rationale thought out the window.

They were smart enough to build two bombs, successfully set them off, and avoid identification and capture for two days and counting.

They would be smart enough to wear a hat.

I want to be the character who is dealing with personal demons that nobody is sure why exactly they're on the show except for a random episode where they prove their worth. I can come up with a good backstory if need be.

Why? It's one of many tactics used by law enforcement and investigators. Yes, not the ONLY one but one of many.

Just my opinion. Again I would focus on the fact that he had the backpack that looked to be similar to one that was used not by his general appearance, this would drastically reduce the suspect pool to a somewhat more manageable level.

The correlation is stronger with the backpack than the general appearance is all that Im saying.

Im done discussing this point because I want this thread to remain a source of actual information rather than banter between posters. There was already a significant derail between two people arguing about possible groups/religons so Im not going to contribute to anymore of that.

Oh, definitely, the similarity of the backpack should be enough. I just added in a few more things and 3true felt the need to rip. I don't get his schtick.

What i find ironic is how one week prior Pitino crouching at the loud streamer poppers is within seconds a viral gif on the internet and then a week later the real thing isn't a laughing matter.

Interesting item you bring up. I never thought his reaction was funny, more like that it was justified and the fact it was a justified response was sort of a sad commentary.

I can't tell from that picture, but on the link provided earlier in the thread they showed pics from the crime scene investigators have taken, one was of of a zipper pull that was a "Fox" brand.

They would be smart enough to have an unsuspecting patsy actually plant the device.

If the guy pictured is involved, it doesn't mean he actually built the device, or even necessarily knew what he was carrying. The brains of the operation could recruit an ignorant accomplice.

You probably should have just stuck with the backpack thing instead of the he doesn't look like a marathoner thing.

Yep, I felt very sorry for him and I don't even like him a little. He looked scared for his life.

you'd have to be pretty ******* stupid to get pulled into that. "hey, go take these duffle bags (don't look inside!) and put one at spot A and spot B Monday morning before the marathon. But don't let anyone see you and don't look suspicious." But you did say ignorant accomplice.

I stand by my original comment from Monday. I will be shocked if this is anything other than a lone *******.

CNN just sent a text alert saying "Parts of Capitol cleared after suspicious packages found in Hart Senate Office , Russell Senate Office buildings."

Just seems like its one thing after another...

makes you wonder if yesterday's letter wasn't supposed to get there til today?

I'd like to think that it would take such a level of stupidity, but there has to be a reason for the repetitive airport warnings about not accepting bags/packages from strangers.

There's a reason these exist: Things People Said: Warning Labels.

I have no idea how likely the "dumb accomplice" theory is, but I just wanted to mention it as an alternate explanation for the apparent disparity between having the intelligence to pull off the attack and elude authorities while not thinking to avoid the cameras.

Frankly if I was going to go to the trouble of planning something like this, creating bombs, placing them and detonating them, I would certainly scout the location and the event or a similar event in advance so I knew what to do, how to dress and how to act to fit in. If the investigators are simply looking for those who "don't fit in" there is a very real chance they won't find them.

I'm sure they aren't limiting their search in such a way.

I didn't comment on the post initially, but I thought a comment about not looking like they were running a marathon or there to watch a marathon was kind of silly. This is a huge event for the City of Boston and good portion of the state of Massachusetts. There are thousands of people who really aren't running fans or even sports fans who go to see the doings every year because it is part of their city. If I were running in the marathon, my brother who isn't a runner and maybe even my Mom might attend. Neither would be confused for a marathoner.

Maybe the response was a tad harsh, but I have to agree with the sentiment.

More random speculation by us internet sleuths.

Interesting that this thread focuses on a complete different person(s) of interest. But I think it does a good job of underscoring that when you have very little to go on you use profiling. Do the two guys and the odd looking guy warrant a closer look, yep. Not definitive proof either way but definitely something that would looked at closely.

The best character to be is the hot chick. She is also usually, somehow, the best fighter on the team and kicks the most *** on the show.
