Pitino to Minnesota....

They should have kept Tubby and fired the AD. Pitino is a bad hire. Does anyone really see this marriage working out? He's either going to get fired for sucking, or if he shows some success he's going to bolt for the next big gig.

This is a boom or bust type hire and the boom isn't going to last very long as Pitino is going to the bolt at the first sign of success.

Why isn't anyone going after Tommy Amaker? I figured he would be pretty high on the list of up and young coaches.

Perhaps his lack of success at Michigan is turning people off though it shouldn't because all he ever had was a mess to work with.

People saying they should of kept tubby never saw MN play. He had to go. Now Norwood botched te Flip hire and if Pitino fails he should go with him.

Ahhhh, the old hire-a-famous-coach's-son-in-hopes-that-he-fails-and-Daddy-comes-in-as-an-assistant-to-save-Son's-job approach.

Why would you fire the AD before the hire fails? What if it works? Tubby needed to go. I'm not convinced at all that this is a good hire but explain why the AD should be fired.

The AD told the Minnesota Regents and press at 9am that Tubby was fired, then told Tubby at 1:00 later that day. Tubby got calls all morning about his being fired before he was told. Plus the AD did not congratulate the team or go to the locker room after the Gopher win in the NCAA tourney. He was rooting for his team to lose to make it easier to fire Tubby. Reports were he left the arena very unhappy with the win. That AD is a real tool and has no class imo. Whether you liked Tubby's coaching or not, everyone says he a nice guy.

That story reinforces how thankful I am that JP is our AD.

This hire may be successful, but it is definitely a crap shoot. If it weren't for name recognition of his father, I'm guessing the fans would be jumping off cliffs. My advise to him. You better win quickly.

Is this true or heresay? Not arguing because that would imply that I care a bunch but is this message board info or documented? He's certainly a ***** if true.

Seems like it would be easier to recruit with Tubby than this guy. I guess the knock on Tubby is he didn't do anything with his talent but at least he got talent. Maybe upgrading assistant coaches would have been a better solution.

In addition to the reasons already given. The AD turned the coaching search into a spectacle after Tubby was fired. Stories came out one after another with coach after coach turning the job down. It Made Minnesota look like a circus school. Bad PR. Comparing the way he ran his search and the way Pollard has run searches, makes me glad we have Pollard. Keeps it low profile, and when he finds the right candiate, does not hesitate.

This Pitino hire at Minnesota reminds me of when the Major got hired by the Squawks. Resume is kind of short, but he's a big name. Hopefully they are in "March situations" soon.

How do you know the truth behind these stories?

Regarding Flip, it is 100% true. The job was offered to him and he wanted it, but Norwood and his croonies said he couldn't hire his staff. Flip said F that and turned it down. If Pitino fails, Norwood has to be fired.

guessing Gregg Marshall will be coach at Texas soon. Just a hunch. I'd love it if they kept Barnes but their fan base has to be ****** off at him.
