I would argue that the Verve was one of the greatest and most influential bands of the '90s.
OK so now I sucked into this thread and trying to think of one's I haven't seen yet.

Urban Hymns is a hell of an album. "The Drugs Don't Work" is my favorite song on it.
They unfortunately were hurt by the overwhelming success of Bittersweet Symphony. That and the legal battles associated with the song.

The Whispers also had a hit called "And The Beat Goes On" which was sampled by Will Smith for the song "Miami"
Another one from my high school years.
I love The Urge as some of their other songs are much better than Jump Right In but this is the only one that was actually popular anywhere outside of the midwest.
On a side note saw these guys and 311 in Omaha in 96 and it was freaking amazing.
Edit - Just remembered it was 95 at EdgeFest.

Ah yes - the was in the 70's I think.
The part sampled is what most would recognize, but I think it still was a hit.

Actually "Hot Child In The City" is Nick Gilder's only top 40 record so he would count.
"Beach Baby" by First Class is a one hit wonder for the group,but not for it's lead singer Tony Burrows. Burrows sang lead on "Love Goes Where My Rosemary Goes" by Edison Lighthouse,"My Baby Loves Lovin" by White Plains and was also heard on the songs "United We Stand" by the Brotherhood of Man and "Gimme Dat Ding" by the Pipkins.
That's true, but they shot themselves in the foot with the whole Stones debacle. There are many bands on this list who were great musicians, but that doesn't mean that they were rewarded with a lot of hits.

Wet Willie cracked the top 30 with two other songs,"Street Corner Serenade" and "Weekend".

That song hit #68 on the Billboard chart in 1975,Head East has no top 40 hits with "Since You Been Gone" hitting #46 in 1978 being their highest charted song.
