.

Didn't see this in the thread, but I don't think most men think about/ care about children until they have one. At least that was the case for me and many of my friends. So in a sense, it's harder to know when you are "ready" to have kids as a guy.

Only other advice I would have:
1. Be married before you have kids and make sure both of you are on the same page about kids. Makes a big difference (my wife grew up w/ single mom until about 5; much better for her post-mom marriage).
2. Try to avoid having children as a way to save your marriage (see that a couple of times in my life; usually doesn't end well).

Lastly, and this may sound odd, but if you're trying to a comparable situation for kids, think dogs but with a bit more work involved.

Move to a town with a ****** school district and less taxes? Vote no on bond issues, etc. for the school? It's like the same choices parents have, except in reverse!!!

uh...no. Jobs and family keeping us here for awhile

the stodgy Bohemi population here has voted down a major revenue stream probability for years--a CASINO

So the last 20 years we have seen MiLLIONS $$ of dollars leave Linn County every year and spend their $$ @ Riverside, Dubuque, Waterloo, Quad Cities, Mesquakie.....

A bass ackwards community whose ship has sailed..... A casino here would of been HUGE....and would of helped revitalized this area post 2008 flood

Linn Co has no other avenue streams to offset property taxes. they're outrageous

that would be totally against Hollywood standards and too stringent for this current administration

The property tax issue for some of us homeowners who are childless > is a#s backwards.

We pay a sh#tload of taxes, and subsidize every other parents' kids with a school district who loves to spend money

why should people get a tax credit for having kids? They should pay more, not less.

It could be argued that educated kids grow up to be contributing members of communities like the one you live in. I know that doesn't help you.

How exactly is that the parents/schools fault? Unless you're so crazy conservative that you think we should just get rid of public education and those kids will find some way to educate themselves because you're sucessful soley because you worked hard with no help from anybody, gosh darn it!

All the uneducated kids can become blackjack dealers. Casinos solve all the problems we have in society. Or, we could legalize weed and make public schools the growers. There is plenty of playground area to set-up pot fields. Wrap it around science class somehow. That way public schools are self-funded.

This confuses me. I knew Jamby hated squawkeye fans, but now I find he hates public education. These positions seem at odds since the last thing I think of when I think squawk fans is 'educated'.

Well, since his posts so clearly show that the education system failed him, maybe he's just bitter.

The popularity of having a dog surprises me. I have had 4 kids but never though that taking care of a dog would be fun. Maybe I should trade one of the kids for a dog and see if I like it more?

I think people who don't have kids should get some kind of environmentalist tax break. I read how not having kids is the single biggest thing you could do to be environmentally friendly.

I read somewhere that 42% of people without kids drive Hummers. It's a wash.

Yea, but I feel like that's one step away from saying, "If you really cared about the environment you'd kill yourself and stop using up resources."

It's either that or start killing kids. We can't have it both ways.
