Notre Dame to ACC as partial member

Big East was dead when the football powers left to the ACC in the early 00's we just didn't know it yet. Turns out you can't be successful as a conference with only 7-8 football teams and a million basketball only schools.

The ACC doesn't have that problem. ACC's problem is that their star football programs have really hit the tank lately with only Va Tech being what they're supposed to be.
 
Florida State will not like this...I'll bet we see some Conference realignment action before the current ACC members are required to sign onto the new 50 million buy out.

Only if revenues increase with the number of teams. The only benefit to a 12 team league is a 8 game conference schedule. I don't want to lower our revenues at the expense of 1 game.
 
Pretty good deal for both parties. ACC will likely get two home games a year against Notre Dame which should help for attendance and exposure.
 
You know, I was going to call dibs on Conference Realignment Part III, but I just don't care anymore.

FSU and Clemson, come on down! You're the next contestants on "Who wants to be in a new Conference!"

Now please God, make it all go away.

According to most of the rumors...FSU wanted ND ALL in as a member, they were not a fan of ND having a shot at the Orange Bowl when only playing 5 ACC schools a year. Or sharing football revenue when the ACC contract is already more set up for a basketball bias.

Seems to me that Clemson is pretty freaking good the past couple years!

I don't disagree with them. The deal makes some sense for the ACC, but that's the reason I didn't ever understand the Big 12 being interested in taking ND as a partial member.
 
With a $50 mil buyout, no ACC teams will be leaving.

Are there any Big East schools the Big 12 really, really wants? I don't think so. Louisville + Cinci won't add enough additional revenue for all schools to agree to accept them.

I think the Big 12 is staying at 10 for the next decade or more.

Where's the money coming from to pay for ND's piece of the pie? I don't see the addition of nd in basketball to really affect an already stacked league so there won't be extra money there. Are two home football games against ND enough to bring in more TV money in football? It's the same problem the big12 had, do the other schools take a revenue hit to bring them in as a partial member?
 
Notre Dame gets the very real chance to steal the Orange Bowl from FSU, Clemson, and VaTech if they are ranked higher, I would guess is the issue. Do you want to leave this kind of decision to the jackwagons that vote in the polls and want nothing more than to polish the dome of the Irish year-in and year-out? All of this for the chance to play the Irish once in ten years at a neutral site in football and all the non-football sports.

I think once Notre Dame steals the Orange Bowl from one of these teams, you will see a LOT of hacked off fans. If it happens to FSU or Clemson, I would bet it might be intense enough to get the dominoes falling on expansion again. I think FSU and Clemson are crazy not to come over the Big12 now that Notre Dame is NOT All-In with a conference. I wasn't going to be happy with Notre Dame having the chance to steal a bowl spot from us in the future for the chance to play them once a decade at Soldier Field or something.

I'm happy the opted for the ACC. It now sets the stage for FSU and Clemson to come over and we can get things settled for a decade or so.
 
Anyone who is on the we need to snatch up BE schools before they are gone needs to take another look at the situation. The Big 12 has 10 teams that have enough value to have the conference be close to the highest yearly revenue payout for TV. Adding tier 3 rights held by the individual schools some Big 12 teams will probably be the highest paid in the nation for broadcasting (Longhorn network, OU). There is next to 0 threat of the conference breaking up due to the grant of rights and the TV contract is guaranteed money for the long haul.

To add we would need to go to 12 schools to make sense. So we would have to add 2 BE teams. There may be 2 Big East Schools that will hit the average Big 12 level, but they will not be teams that will warrant a higher payout from the networks enough to compensate for the splitting of the pie 2 more ways. Learn from the SEC adding mediocre teams from another power conference can be a bad idea.
