Cyclone State Postgame Thread!!

Road win against BCS school, albeit a bad one. Everybody has an ugly half here and there. Big W!

I'm not trying too overly hard to defend jantz he had a horrible 2nd half... That last pick was awful, but did anybody else feel the playcalling on offense was just terrible? Why at the 3 don't we go goal line offense and punch it with woody? Iowa had us pegged the whole 2nd half on what we were running... We were so predictable... Jus sayin...

Walters said Woody was hurt, but still no excuse for calling two zone reads down there. The play calling sucked. Mess is new to calling plays so I'm sure we'll have some of that. Nice to have a learning experience for him but still get a win.

It was clear to me that ISU was by far the better team - but simply could not get out of their own way today. A ton of self-inflicted mistakes.

This gives the coaches plenty to focus on before a potential letdown game....

Other than a hashmark in the win column, this is the most important thing we take away from the game. I got a sick feeling in my stomach when we missed the opening drive extra point and it didn't get any better as the game progressed (until Knott's INT). ISU is significantly better than UI - that game shouldn't have been close...

1st and goal from the 3 and we can't just go right at them. Woody cannot be healthy, because all we needed were three up the guts on that series and it's over right there. At the very least, get the RB going and let Steele have a few shots on keepers. Depressing we can't just go up the middle with some confidence there. This is what I gripe about is that Snyder and K-State come away with 10-21 more points than us in the same spots because they do NOT kill themselves. This game should not have been close.

The difference in this game was we only had one ugly half of football while the Hawks had a two ugly halfs of football.

Definitely one of those games where it hurts worse to lose than feels good to win. Good luck with that Hawks!

Doesn't matter how ugly the game was, a win is a win. Both teams left a ton of opportunities on the field!!

I just about threw up a few times during the game. I'll take a win, but that was the worst Iowa team in years and we only beat them by 3. We didnt scoe in the 2nd half Yeah, we had 3 red zone to's, but they had 1 and a ton of dropped passes.

Based on this game, and this game only, I'm not sure I agree with this. While our defense stepped up HUGE when we needed it today, I don't feel like we really "owned" Iowa. We may have had better stats, but I never felt comfortable during that entire game.

Wow. Certainly glad we won, but that was ugly. The defense should be very proud, but the offense...yuk! Sleele looked great at times, but absolutely TERRIBLE at others--just like last year. He missed a bunch of wide open deep passes and the last pick was HORRID! He is not a B12 QB if he is going to play like this. He should be on probation now, with JB getting ready to come in if this happens again. Glad we didn't have any difficult non-conference teams scheduled. We should have beat these chumps by 24+.

Get a grip. We beat Iowa in their house...while committing 4 turnovers and playing poorly. That is as big a sign that our program is "arrriving" as anything you'll ever see. Playing badly in winning on the road...in a place that is tough for ANY team to win...is a great sign. It feels crappy because we know we underperformed...but the truth is we were good enough to overcome a bad game on the road...and that has rarely been true of any Iowa State team in the past.
