Barnes and his quest for NC

I'm not mad at Barnes. I don't blame him for leaving at all. I root against UNC because of Roy, not Barnes. Barnes is overrated but that's not his fault.

The announcement was a bit bush league but meh.

If Michael Jordan had come to Ames, he too would be a legend in Ames.

If Jerry Rice had chosen ISU, he too would be a legend in Ames.

So Michael Jordan, Jerry Rice and Harrison Barnes, you can all **** it.

Its good to see that people have moved on from Harrison and are not bitter at all...

For every "hes from Iowa and I support him" there is an opposite. Just the way it is. Neither is wrong or right. I didnt lose any sleep over him leaving, it made sense to him to go and thats fine. I wont support his decision, but I respect that its his choice. He right now may be suffering a bit from the hype and the distance he is from the comfort he had here. That stuff can absolutely play a role in performance.

HB is encouraging all UNC fans to wear carolina blue to the dean dome this week so he can skype david stern.
would not surprise me if the over-hyped showboater did exactly this. HB's life peaked on skype in ames high.

Greg McDermott in an ESPN interview prior to Creighton's NCAA games admitted he did not want his own son to play in the type of program he had created.

The article was ignored here because we were all wrapped up in ISU/UConn but he basically admitted a ton of mistakes and that he wanted a better situation for Doug.

Given all that and that Doug and HB were teammates, how on Earth can anyone be mad he chose Michael Jordan U?

Links to the article were posted. I know I read it.

1. People SHOULD be incensed at McDermott for creating a program he didn't believe was fit for his son to play in.

2. Barnes was NEVER coming to ISU, so that is largely irrelevant. People should NOT be angry with Barnes for going where he wanted to go. Some are, in my opinion, justified in not thinking highly of him because of the manner in which he did so.

Missed this, is there still a link, would like to check it out.

who can blame HB for going to UNC... if you was a top high-school basketball recruit... you'd probably be interested the powerhouses as well

I'm laughing because he's learning the hard way of what unc and duke fans do when a recruit under performs. He'll never have any history at unc and will be forgotten. A good lesson his ego needed.

I would argue that a fan expecting someone to choose to play for a local team over a better situation for the athlete just because the fan wants the local team to be better is wrong.

I don't think he wil make it in the NBA. I hope he ends up on some crappy D league team.

I don't blame HB in any way for choosing to play for North Carolina. I mean, it's tough to turn down a top-shelf program like that, especially when our program was in such poor shape.

But I do have a tough time forgiving the way HB made his announcement, big-timing his hometown fans like that. It was a smaller, more local version of the LeBron James announcement. Nobody would begrudge a press conference and for him to have his moment, but to throw the doors open and invite everyone then Skyping Roy Williams...that's just a shameful thing to do.

I didn't like that either and agree it was Bush league. I have to say though, it's as much our fault as it is his. there was so much hype around him, I think he actually believed the city of Ames would be happy for him. He felt everyone loved him for being Harrison Barnes, not ISU's savior. If we as fans didn't put so much importance on sports, we wouldn't have things like this happen.

I do hope that with HB's debacle of a gathering and the "I'm going to take my talents to South Beach" wonder of entertainment that more athletes will realize that if you aren't choosing us, we don't care. So next time, make it a local show for the town you are going to, not the one you are leaving.

Hmmmm ranked as the #1 recruit in the country, play for a bottom dweller in Iowa State (at the time) or a powerhouse like UNC, easy choice for me and I'd choose UNC too. Who really would of wanted to play for McD, I sure wouldn't of and i think he saw that McD was not doing anything to get the program moving forward. Yeah Barnes is over hyped but its because he's pretty one dimensional without a good point guard, he'll be a lottery pick and will make more money than any of us ever will in our life time. I don't see him being a star in the NBA but i think he'll definitely be a decent player. Im glad he's out of the tourney though, and its gross to say but i was rooting for KU yesterday

All the vitriol toward Barnes is embarrassing. You people all act like he owed something to ISU. Like ISU was somehow entitled to his services. Unbelievable.

It's both pathetic and hilarious just how butt hurt some people here are over Barnes. Get over it, he did absolutely nothing wrong.
