Off the beaten path TV series suggestions

I agree. My wife has the dvd set and we just got done with the series. Can't imagine why it didn't stay around longer.

Agree with all who are saying Freaks and Geeks. Probably the most well crafted television show ever in my opinion. Great writing, great acting, great photography, great settings and costumes.

If they had a reunion of actors, directors, producers and writers it would be the most expensive show on TV by a mile.

Loved "pushing Daisies", but after critical acclaim, was cancelled after one season. Good humor, and good plots. "Ed vs Spencer" was great reality TV, a BBC show. Two roommates that would make an outlandish bet, with bad consequences for the loser.

I'll second Chuck. I'm kind of Bummed tonight is the last episode ever.

Yeah, me too. No other show really like it. I've heard very good reviews of what theyve got for tonight's 2 hours so we'll see.

Hoping to see the cast of the show get into other projects.

Well, since some scifi and older shows have been mentioned: Farscape. It was pretty amazing when it came out (Australian show I think), and was maybe one of the first things that SciFi channel really had that was good and not ancient reruns. It did jump the shark somewhere before it ended. Big outcry when cancelled. Eventually transferred the 2 main actors to Stargate.

Speaking of SyFy channel - it really sucks now. Nothing but weather disaster and horror creature movies, 24/7. Hardly ever watch it.

So what did you (and others) who enjoyed "Chuck" think of the series finale last night?

I enjoyed it. A good ending, but not necessarily one of those "happily ever after" endings that can be a bit trite and manufactured. Good closure for all the characters, even the bit parts like "Jeffster".

I've seen a couple of other shows mentioned in this thread I've enjoyed myself, like "Firefly" and "Twin Peaks". "Firefly" being cancelled so early in its only season is a travesty IMO.

A show I'll mention is "Fringe", on Fox Friday nights. Extremely well-done and acted sci-fi series that is a bit of a hybrid between "X-Files" and "CSI" (although I've never watched an episode of CSI in my life). Excellent character development along with an engaging overarching mythology to the main story line.

Bored To Death on HBO is a funny show.
Starring- Jason Schwartzman, Zach Galifianakis, and Ted Danson

The entire Stargate saga. Got through SG-1, am more than halfway through Atlantis, and I have Universe yet to go.

SG-1 is awesome for sure. After awhile the writers got stupid though, but I loved most of the series for sure. Great show.

Farscape got good, but eventually it got old at the end like a lot of long running sci fi series.

Eureka is pretty good on SyFy now, although I missed last season mostly.

How about Sliders? Loved that show, but of course they couldn't get over the ******* cromagnon **** near the end. Why does this always happen to a lot of sci fi shows?

Freaks and Geeks is a great show that ran for only one season. The cast has a half-dozen big names in it, many of them had a big start on the show. I loved it.

IIRC NBC didn't give it much of a chance by preempting it multiple times and shuffling its timeslot quite a bit. I think they even aired the episodes out of order too. I'd love to see a reunion show and I am really surprised Linda Cardellini hasn't shown up in any of Apatow's movies.

I've been a huge fan of Chuck since season 1 and while i have mixed feelings about how the show ended, it was probably as good of an exciting finish that they could have had. When it's all said and done it was 5 seasons of excellence tho! There's never been a show quite like it, and any that try in the future will not be nearly as good!

I'm mixed. There's a lot of stuff i loved, but at the same time i hate that it feels like they threw out 5 years of character development for sarah. Maybe we're supposed to assume that she ends up regaining her memories, but given that morgan didnt, i have a hard time feeling certain about that. I loved Jeffster's moment.

Word is there's a longer version of the finale coming on the dvd (which is good bc this finale seemed rushed), so i'm looking forward to that.

NBC is well known for dropping great shows. Great job NBC getting rid of Southland, one of the best cop shows on air right now on TNT. Glad they got rid of that show as TNT can get away with much more.

Another great cop show they dropped was Life w/ Damian Lewis. Sadly no one else picked it up.

Not current, but Extras is a must for any Ricky Gervais fan. His best work, IMO.

Also, Little Britain if you like British humor. Not family-friendly. The same duo also has a mockumenary seriews about airlines called Come Fly with Me.

shows that some mentioned on here that I have to say I loved.

Fringe, Stargate (any), Sliders, Firefly, Jericho sure their were more but those are tops

and BattleStar Galactica (new) although not really off the beaten path either.

the increasingly poor decisions of Todd Margaret - Netflix

HA, great show. It's one of those that is almost uncomfortable to watch at times, because you know Todd is going to make an *** of himself, but you have to watch it happen. He's a great character, so likeable and unlikeable at the same time. And Will Arnett is over the top as his boss. Great story, too bad season one is so short.

Another recommendation on Netflix would be Trailer Park Boys. I know it's been discussed on here before, but that is some really good off the wall comedy there.
