The fact that you have to ask why people hate the Big 10 is one of the reasons people hate the Big 10. Can you imagine an SEC fan asking why people hate the SEC? This is like your question.

But, specifically, my current reasons for hating the Big 10:

1. Your conference can't count how many teams are members.
2. Your conference pretends to care about academics, but then accepts Nebraska even after their AAU accreditation.
3. Your conference claims Penn State's football history as its own on the Big 10 Network.
4. Your conference is now starting to claim Nebraska's football history as its own on the Big 10 Network.
5. Your conference consistently is matched up against the weakest teams in BCS bowl games. Ask Ohio State how this works out when this does not happen.
6. Your conference plays an extremely boring brand of football and basketball, and then claims it is the "correct way".
7. Your conference consistently has a losing record in bowl games. When this happens, ESPN does not point it out. When the Big 10 does not have a losing record (going 4-3, I believe, two years ago), ESPN points this out as if it is an accomplishment.
8. Yet people like you continue to ignore #7 above and pretend that the Big 10 is a strong football conference.

That's the big one, #8 there. Not being very good, but continuing to believe you are better than others.

1. Big 12?

2. Nebby's accreditation was rescinded after joining the BIG

3. ??

4. ??

5. Oregon, Arkansas, TCU, VT, GT, Oregon are the last 6 BCS teams the Big Ten matched up with. Those are weak?

6. Sorry every game isn't a 67-56 score. I thought UW and MSU played exciting games today though.

7. .500 record last year, winning record 2 years ago.

8. Big Ten plays TOUGH teams in bowl games (three SEC teams, conference champs of 2 other conferences). Remember the SOS argument a lot of fans used here during the regular season? Yeah, I just used that here. I'll throw another gem in. "I'd love the Big Ten to play the Big 12's bowl schedule, they'd be 5-1 right now instead of 3-6. 3-6 is 6-3 with any other conferences' bowl schedule." (for the record, I still think using statements like this are cop-outs, but whatevs)

I think most of the Big 10 hate has nothing to do with Iowa. I hate the SEC, but couldn't care about a single school in the league.

Look around the country. Most people outside of Big 10 country hate the Big 10. The reason is that the Big 10 has a collective arrogance about its on-field performance that is completely contradicted by what actually happens on the field.

The Big 10 is treated is an elite league when in reality it often comes in anywhere between 4-6 amongst the BCS leagues. However, due to having several giant universities in high population areas, it gets a ton of exposure and media love.

It really has very little to do with Iowa.

Right.... So where are the SEC, PAC 12, etc. hate threads.

Please name the media outlets that have said the conference was good this year (Big 10 network doesn't count).

ESPN and Fox, both saying that michigan without a doubt deserved a BCS bid? The AP (and other human polls) constantly rating the big 10 teams all consistently higher than the computer rankings?

We dont have obnoxious SEC fans telling us how great the SEC is all the time. (and this has nothing to do with Iowa, though their fans may definitely contribute)

Big Ten has been and always will be one of the Strongest, Most Prestigious Conferences in the Country....(imo)

Well said. Maybe not strongest on the field many years, but definitely the most stable conference that looks out for all of its members.

So commentators in the media justified why a team that qualified by the rules of the BCS for a BCS bid means the media said it's a great conference? That's a pretty big leap of faith there on your part.

There's also a coaches poll, not just AP. And the computer formulas are created by humans. So I guess those can't be used in your argument for which conference is better.

Other than Iowa fans, what other fan bases are shoving the Big 10 down your throat?

Outside of KSU and OSU, the Big 12 played junk teams. Our second best team against the Big 10s 5th or sixth best team? I would hope we would win. I'm not saying the Big Ten is good but the SEC and Big 12 aren't as good as everyone thinks. The top of the Big Ten is a little better than everyone thinks.

Michigan (the Big 10's #2) would get waxed by Stanford, KSU, and 'Bama (the #2s in their respective leagues). Hell, they might not even beat the ACC's #2.

The fact that some of you big 10 supporters cant seem to get it is exactly the arrogance of which we speak.

And yet it never does anything within the realm of on-field play to justify its perceived strength and prestige.

It is the nation's most stable league, which is due to the member schools working together for 100 years, having giant alumni bases, and being located in many high population areas.

It's prestige is due in part to it's influence in the media which is a result of having alumni working in the media, as well as it's academic reputation (which is 100% earned).

In terms of recent on-field accomplishment, the Big 10 is in the realm of the ACC or Big East, yet gets the respect of an SEC, and more respect than the Big 12 or Pac 12.

Exactly. Ancient Chinese proverb: An arrogant person cannot detect arrogance in others. Only non-arrogant persons can detect arrogance in others. :cute:
