The fact that you have to ask why people hate the Big 10 is one of the reasons people hate the Big 10. Can you imagine an SEC fan asking why people hate the SEC? This is like your question.

But, specifically, my current reasons for hating the Big 10:

1. Your conference can't count how many teams are members.
2. Your conference pretends to care about academics, but then accepts Nebraska even after their AAU accreditation.
3. Your conference claims Penn State's football history as its own on the Big 10 Network.
4. Your conference is now starting to claim Nebraska's football history as its own on the Big 10 Network.
5. Your conference consistently is matched up against the weakest teams in BCS bowl games. Ask Ohio State how this works out when this does not happen.
6. Your conference plays an extremely boring brand of football and basketball, and then claims it is the "correct way".
7. Your conference consistently has a losing record in bowl games. When this happens, ESPN does not point it out. When the Big 10 does not have a losing record (going 4-3, I believe, two years ago), ESPN points this out as if it is an accomplishment.
8. Yet people like you continue to ignore #7 above and pretend that the Big 10 is a strong football conference.

That's the big one, #8 there. Not being very good, but continuing to believe you are better than others.

Lol. False. Hell, theyre not one of the strongest most prestigious conferences right now. They just have good demographics that make them money for now. They certainly aren't one of the strongest or most prestigious conferences on the field.

As population shifts more and more away from the big 10 areas, they will lose that money advantage as well.

My two cents...it's a combination of what Al said AND the "Iowa State Super Bowl" **** out east.

Every year we win that game, there is immediate discussion similar to this:

"So what if (Iowa State) won. Who will end up with the better record at the end of the year?" If you don't believe me, there is a thread on HN that was started almost as soon as James White crossed the goal line...check it out.

It is the belief over there that we only come to play in that one game.

The reality is...Iowa ends up 8-4; ISU is 6-6...their belief is justified (in their own mind).

Wake up. The better overall record is a product of the crap that is seen, year-in-and-year-out, during bowl season.

The Big 10 blows. Iowa's successes are directly related, and their failures against 'The Good Guys' are because...we are better than you!

In order to be overrated, don't you actually have to be predicted to be good? Who was predicting the Big Ten to be good this year?

It's not about pre-season rankings or predictions. The B1G had a HORRIBLE non-conference this year, but yet they get 2 in the BCS and an entire day of Jan bowls because they bring the most TV sets.

You have large populations, enormous alumni bases and great academics. You are the premier conference because of these reasons, but it certainly isn't because of your performance on the field.

2. Your conference pretends to care about academics, but then accepts Nebraska even after their AAU accreditation. What?
3. Your conference claims Penn State's football history as its own on the Big 10 Network. Do we take Texas'?
4. Your conference is now starting to claim Nebraska's football history as its own on the Big 10 Network. Will we take TCUs or WVUs. Would we take NDs?
5. Your conference consistently is matched up against the weakest teams in BCS bowl games. Ask Ohio State how this works out when this does not happen. Not true
6. Your conference plays an extremely boring brand of football and basketball, and then claims it is the "correct way".Maybe true

1 - Today it was Big Ten football mania or nothing until 8pm and I had a rare day to watch football all day. It's pretty ridiculous that the #4 conference gets its own prime day of New Year's football and the #1 conference gets one BCS bowl bid.

2 - The Big Ten truly is severely overrated almost every year, there is never a year where any of the various computer models has the Big Ten teams ranked as high as AP and coaches polls. This is not universally true of any other conference.

3- Big Ten fans run their trap about stupid BS they make up like "January Bowls" then run and hide when they get spanked in them.

4- I live in Chicago and what little college football gets through the Bears mania is only Big Ten and Notre Dame.

5- a few years ago the national media was crying for a Michigan Ohio State rematch in the national championship and they they both got BLOWN OUT in their bowls, they weren't even #3 and #5 let alone #1 and #2
I disagree here:

1-B12 could have easily gotten 2 bcs teams had we not beaten OSU. Would you rather have had that? Granted KSU did get snubbed and Michigan/VT is an absolute joke in the sugar bowl, but that's just an observation.

3- Simply being in a January bowl has lost its importance. See northern illinois/ark st.

My problem with the big10 is that they were the ones that started the expansion talk. Then they use the most pretentious names for their divisions and trophies.

Also, some of my hatred started with the BTN deal and their forcing of anyone in the state with cable or dish to pay for it being on a basic tier.

The Big10 is at best the third or fourth best conference, but act like they run things. Delany is to college football as Dodds is to the big12. If he keeps pushing, he's going to ruin the whole thing.

you named your conferences Legends and Leaders. That type of arrogance is the reason everyone hates the Big 10. They talk tons of trash and NEVER back it up.

I'm not jealous of not having won a bowl game in 60 years and never making it to the NCAA tournament.

It couldnt have anything to do with the air of superiority and arrogance that comes from the big 10 and their media friends who love to overrate the conference. Nothing better than bowl season when the big 10 comes out and reminds us all that the big 10 is a fraud.

Please name the media outlets that have said the conference was good this year (Big 10 network doesn't count).

You know how everyone, including Iowa fans, make fun of Nebraska and Notre Dame for living in the past and talking about what it "used" to be?? That also applies to the Big 10 conference.
