Bielema got his *** kicked, hope he enjoyed it.

You might want to check the definition of ***-kicking. Losing by one score with the chance to tie/win because you have last possession is the antithesis of such a statement.

I guess if the cause of all the BIG obsession is because of Iowa, isn't that a round-about way of obsessing over Iowa? Afterall, why aren't there as many SEC, Pac12, Big East, ACC hate threads? In fact, I'd be willing to bet that the number of BIG related threads outnumber the total topics of all the other BCS conferences combined.

B1G is closer?

I think most of the Big 10 hate has nothing to do with Iowa. I hate the SEC, but couldn't care about a single school in the league.

Look around the country. Most people outside of Big 10 country hate the Big 10. The reason is that the Big 10 has a collective arrogance about its on-field performance that is completely contradicted by what actually happens on the field.

The Big 10 is treated is an elite league when in reality it often comes in anywhere between 4-6 amongst the BCS leagues. However, due to having several giant universities in high population areas, it gets a ton of exposure and media love.

It really has very little to do with Iowa.

One thing I continue to realize is that the Big 10 and the Pac 12 may have their own networks but their product sucks *** at football.

It couldnt have anything to do with the air of superiority and arrogance that comes from the big 10 and their media friends who love to overrate the conference. Nothing better than bowl season when the big 10 comes out and reminds us all that the big 10 is a fraud.

Have they done that this year? MSU beat the loser of the SEC championship. UW gave Oregon everything they want with so much less speed. Their junk teams lost but we got beat by Rutgers so I don't see the difference there.

Wouldnt be an 'obsession over iowa' (but there you go with another 'iowa state fans are obsessed with iowa' BS), but their fans spouting the same "big10 is so awesome" crap certainly has to contribute to them being more hated around here.

I hate the media's obsession with the SEC too, but at least the SEC mostly backs up their arrogance.

Look, I get it. Iowa is in the Big Ten, and ISU fans hate Iowa. No brainer.

What I don't get is the over-obsession by quite a few people on here with the BIG. I guess I just don't get the mindset of treating an entire conference as an opposing (or favorite) team.

Personally, I was happy with UW's loss (especially the way it happened), because Iowa and UW are rivals. I don't want them to win a Rose Bowl. Ever. I was hoping Sparty would lose, because, well, I hate Dantonio. A lot.

Especially if my favorite team doesn't contribute to the strength of the conference.

Just my opinion.

1 - Today it was Big Ten football mania or nothing until 8pm and I had a rare day to watch football all day. It's pretty ridiculous that the #4 conference gets its own prime day of New Year's football and the #1 conference gets one BCS bowl bid.

2 - The Big Ten truly is severely overrated almost every year, there is never a year where any of the various computer models has the Big Ten teams ranked as high as AP and coaches polls. This is not universally true of any other conference.

3- Big Ten fans run their trap about stupid BS they make up like "January Bowls" then run and hide when they get spanked in them.

4- I live in Chicago and what little college football gets through the Bears mania is only Big Ten and Notre Dame.

5- a few years ago the national media was crying for a Michigan Ohio State rematch in the national championship and they they both got BLOWN OUT in their bowls, they weren't even #3 and #5 let alone #1 and #2

This is pretty much what I was thinking almost word for word.

My issue is with the general smugness I hear, living in Big 10 Country, about how they think they play a better brand of football, just because they carry so many more fans. Combine that with how I get to hear of every year of how the B1G is so much stronger than the Big XII because of the list of New Years Day Bowls they appear in and I can't help but root for them to lose. At least that way I can say, "How many of those NYD games did you win?"

I have so many friends out here that went to B1G schools, now combine that with Nebby joining and it just gets painful to listen to at times.

this could get ugly...a ****** MIchigan team getting over Kansas St. for one...two, The big 10 is very overrated, look at the bowl records and previous bowl years..they get way too much credit for sports on a national stage

I think most of the hate has to do with the fact that year after year, the B1G benefits greatly from having the most fans. They get 2 in the BCS this year and the B12 only gets 1!!! Are you freaking kidding me? The B1G is #1 in TV sets and typically a distant 3rd on the field.

Keep in mind, that the B12 is a conference that is hanging on by a thread because of lack of TV sets (among other reasons) but over the past 25 years, the Big 8/12 can easily make the case that we are the #1 or 2 conference in terms of performance....

That creates resentment from our end.

I hate them because their arrogant. I hate Iowa and Nebraska and Wisconsin. Michigan and Michigan State are both overrated. I hate the B1G more than the SEC, because at least they can play good football.

Well if Standford beats Okie State it will be their best and only real win of the season. As for Oregon, they ran through the Pac 12, I mean someone has to win that conference and lost to the best team on their schedule.
