When will Clone fans starting respecting UNI?

Some of this talk makes me ashamed that I grew up supporting Cyclone athletics (and that I still do to an extent). I'm confident that Hawk fans wouldn't make this much drama if they lost to us.

To be fair, there are only 20 or so Hawk fans that care about basketball any more. That's just not enough people for a CF-style meltdown. If they actually cared I'm sure they would be acting crazy. Have you seen HN after they lose a football game?

Not in basketball. The year you guys almost had them on the football field (and really should have beaten them), they lost every last bit of their minds. We can't compete with any meltdown thread from that game. Yet.

We will be back to our rightful place as mythical state champs soon enough. Our influx of talent is not in all the right places right now. We only have one player returning that was here before Fred. We have no PG and our bigs are soph or younger aside from Booker. Next year we will see the holes filled and the future will just be upgrades in talent based on how we are recruiting. Once he can get a well rounded team and fill out the positions our talent will be too much to handle for a MVC team. Sure, there's always upsets, but we'll be the 5 out of 6 in the near future. I respect UNI for what they do but I will never think of them as on the same level as ISU.

And UNI fans, this is the classic case of not expecting non-Clones to read this message board so get over it. Aside from that, welcome to the site and thank you for your support of Cyclone Fanatic.

But only if Drake and UNI have to play in Hilton every season, right?

Money/resources/facilities/fanbases/prestige/etc does count for something however. ISU should not be consistently (key word) losing to schools who have less in all those categories. We have not beat UNI in Hilton since 2003, and that is downright ******* embarrassing.

Again, WE BEAT UNI IN HILTON IN THE 2005-2006 SEASON!!!

I suppose when a site is founded under the guise of a pathological hatred of Wayne Morgan, you can't expect people to be able to remember that he had any success here.:sad::sad:

Would not hurt our chances. Last year we beat Drake by 48 in Hilton, this year we lost in their crappy arena with a better team. I see a trend...

As for UNI, they have just been good, but our good will be better than their good once we get actual recruits for all positions and return more than three players from season to season.

UNI is a superior program to ours right now, they have a great coach who' teams always have an identity. I respect that and envy it. ISU's good teams always has an identity, actually it was a lot like UNI. Play good defense, get to the FT line and take care of the ball. Right now ISU has no identity, nothing to hang their hat on.

Envy might be a little strong. I do not want to be in the MVC. Sure they have been better than us but I'll take our future against theirs.

Actually, they care so little about hawk bb, that they wouldn't bat an eye. If franny ever gets it going there, then they will.

Hell, there was a huge uproar a couple of years ago because Kwadzo was talking trash, they had all kinds of problems with that. So yes, they do get mad about losing to UNI.

Of course, many follow the knu line of fandom, and root for UNI because they have had some success over the past decade. Those people will turn IF franny ever gets the hawk program winning, but they will stick with UNI until then.

You are making Sig Eps look bad here, skippy, I would probably put a little thought into what you are writing. I am fairly certain that you probably wore black and gold to kinnick a couple years ago when they played though, so I can't have too many expectations of you.

UNI is very fortunate that they have two top 6 conference schools that will play home and homes with them. A lot of schools, in their same position, won't even get a sniff at that.

I read their boards from time to time, and I am amazed that their fans are so willing to give schools like Wisconsin, Minny, and the like 2 for 1's to get them to come to CF. Because there is absolutely no reason for any top 6 school to go to CF. They gain nothing on the computers, and they risk a loss to a "mid major."

The good thing is that their administration understands that they can't do this. The SECOND they sign the contract, Iowa State and iowa will never agree to home and homes again.

I will also say, unequivocally, that Jake will pee himself with delight if he gets 6 points a game from Austin Pehl the rest of the season...If he would have given them that type of effort last year after O'Rear got hurt, they may have 3peated.

He couldn't play a lick, but he has really improved. Good for him.

Also, Morrison made the biggest shots of the game last night, just like Moran did last year.

In both cases, Iowa State was ready to run away hide. But they both stepped up and knocked down multiple huge threes to not only stem the tide, but get UNI back in the game. It can be expected that a seasoned winner like Moran would hit those, but Morrison could not get off the bench the first 6 games.

It is impressive that they can keep Pehl and Morrison involved, especially when they have recruited over them. Jake is very good.

Absolutely. I didnt watch the game but just from listening to it, it sounded like that was the difference in the game. Once ISU got up, that was their opportunity to step on UNI's throat, instead, they went into cruise mode and just hold onto their lead. I think this is where you see UNI's advantage of having been a team longer. They really came together to overcome the deficit, ISU just kind of seemed like the expected UNI to roll over once they got the lead.

Having been a team longer? There is one senior that plays and two starting freshman (Mitchell and Tuttle) I would direct you to this article: http://www.desmoinesregister.com/article/20111130/SPORTS05/111130023/Hansen-Panther-players-trust-system-and-it-shows

There is a lot more experience with UNI. A lot of these guys havent played on the court together, but they have been a part of a team a lot longer than the guys at ISU who have sat on a bench unable to play with a coach that hasn't coached 2 full seasons. Its evident that UNI has a program while ISU is trying to build one.

Dont get snappy with me, I'm a Panther just like you. I'm just a Cyclone by association.

You are right. We are the better program right now. We have been for a few years now and it has shown in the results of our games. It doesn't matter what conference we are in we have a better program at this moment. Heck, Gonzaga plays in the WCC (which prior to Gonzaga's runs was probably a low major conference) and I don't think there is any argument that they are one of the best 25 Programs in the country right now.

I do think Iowa State has the ability to become a better program. I also think it is possible under the current coaching staff. They need to come up with what the identity of the team and program is going to be. Once they get this worked out they can get the players that fit into that system, and you will be on your way. It is what happened to UNI. We were as low as low. Then McDermott came in and changed our programs mentality, and keeping Jacobson after McD bolted was great to keep the continuity. Iowa State just hasn't had continuity recently. You will be back don't burn Hilton to the ground just yet.
