Well, if nothing else, they're trying to keep Mizzou around, as well as this being something that new schools coming in would be fans of.

Its true though. A 6 year rights deal only really gets you 4-5 years of 'stability' before everyone could just start with 'we're leaving, as of *insert date rights deal ends here*'.

13 years (to the end of the current fox contract) and HS would be something different.

I still say though that this whole 'rights' thing favors texas more than a missouri. Much bigger budget hit for Missouri to leave later if they sign on than Texas, compared to the size of the budget. Should just raise the buyouts instead, to a % of athletic department revenue.

No. I think it favors the little guys. Sure the hit to the budget is bigger, but TX has more options for leaving. As long as the rights agreement has a clause for what to do to a school who goes independent, they're covered.

Cause Texas is just going to up and take that LHN with them. That's worked so well already.

6 years is so much better than nothing though. That will at least get us a long way on current projects. Once those are done, we may even be more marketable. We would all love 13 years, but it may not happen.

Andy Katz is reporting that the expansion has been put on hold until Mizzou decides and the expansion committee will meet again sometime next week. He is saying Tulane is now an option. Would open up a new state (Louisiana) and they are AAU. http://espn.go.com/college-sports/s...-hope-join-sec-had-wanted-big-ten-invite-most

I know nothing about Tulane besides they are CUSA. Anybody else know anything about them?

WOW. Tulane.

Average attendance in 2010: 23,220
No bowls since 2002
7 bowls since 1940
3 NCAA tourney appearances...none since 1995
Last data I saw on athletic department revenue was 2008: $20 million
Men's BB attendance in 2010-2011: 1,843
Ranking on "Geography of Football Fans" in NY Times article: #111 at 101,701

I appreciate the fact they're an AAU member and in the New Orleans market, but..........

In another 13 years we can make sure our facilities are miles and miles above any non BCS school. Six years isn't enough to distinguish ourselves on that front from a number of the top non BCS teams.

well, they have a law school and a medical school...

I thought Andy Katz would be better than to just float out other peoples ideas... I guess that is the way it is today.

The practice facility will do that. Once that's done, you have the stadium which really isn't a huge deal to recruits, especially if you are winning and putting guys in the league. We likely won't ever have the money to distinguish ourselves above the top third anyway. We just don't have the donor dollars a lot of places do.

I think this is a move in the right direction. Not because it will keep Missouri from leaving (it won't) but it puts the Big 12 on more equal footing and in a better position to attract decent teams.

Then again, remember the source. Chip says NOTHING that isn't put there by Dodds. "Leaking" that they've made concessions might just be a face-saving measure. Hold them to it.

If Mizzou leaving isn't about the LHN or equal revenue sharing, than it what the **** is it about? Are you as dumb as Aggie?

I think Mizzou stays. The admins aren't as stupid as you are.

Internet Mizzou fans seem to want change for change's sake. Not because it's what is best for the University of Missouri in any way shape or form.

Good question. What is this all about?

At the end of the day, even if all of A&M/Mizzou's concerns about stability and the Longhorn network could be taken care of, the issue is about five things:

1. Money
2. Money
3. Money
4. Money
5. Getting away from Texas because everybody is afraid of them

The fact is that the small population base of the Big 12 just can't pump out as much cash. All the posturing about the Longhorn network is just a false front in order to get more money and get away from Texas.

You can actually take "money" off the excuse list. Mizzou won't really make any more in the SECSECSEC. Remember that the Big 12 is going to add schools, and will likely add schools that bring larger markets.

I think for a segment of Mizzou fans, the idea of being in the almighty SECSECSEC is so alluring that they don't give a flying **** about whether or not they ever win another game. They think they are better than the Big 12 for some reason, and there's no better to way for them to validate that internally than chanting "SEC! SEC! SEC!" while they get pile driven by Ole Miss.

I remember watching them play at Jack Trice during the 80s. Does that help?

What is the background on Tulane? saw them mentioned in the ESPN article.

Tulane sucks at football, but it's an AAU school in New Orleans and according to the story has committed resources to the AD. Averaged 23,000 per game in 2010. No idea about AD finances since it's private. But getting into Louisiana wouldn't be a bad deal for the Big 12. Still, seems to be a bit of a stretch...

When has it ever been about anything else? :-) You've been FOLLOWING realignment, right?

Seriously...none of use know exactly where the negotiations stand, or where they broke down. But I'll tell you where you're NOT going to get the straight scoop: Orangebloods.

From the sources who follow this closely (and don't have DeLoss Dodds' hand up their ***) Mizzou wants:

1. A 13+ year rights deal (TX has fallen back to 6 yrs.)
2. Equal revenue sharing for Tiers 1-3 (TX has agreed to 1-2)
3. No HS coverage on regional networks (TX may or may not have agreed to it...we need someone other than Chip to confirm)

Are these positions outlandish? Too much to ask for? Then how come every other major conference has something like this already? (or in the case of the SEC, soon will)

If we got all of these, there's a (slim) possibility we could stay. I'd prefer we don't - because I don't trust Texas to be an honest partner in all of this, and to stay within the spirit of the rules. It's not really fear, it's distrust. I don't know how you "fix" that.
