My conference tidbit

If this Alamo plan is true and in place, the legal posturing is keeping A&M from directly bolting to the SEC, kind of in limbo. Alamo could have 2 facets; One to keep Texas in the conf but under a shared revenue plan, Two if Texas decides not to play and goes wherever, A&M is still not accepted to the SEC and now, what is there real reason for leaving now that Texas is gone? Maybe they stay?

Either way you still have a big footprint in Texas and it gives more power to pull other teams into a more stable conference.

No I didn't. I haven't throughout this whole ordeal. OSU doesn't leave because there is nowhere better for them to go from a competition and geography standpoint. You think they haven't put the pencil to it? Michigan likely hasn't left because they likely value the academic side of the Big Ten. Texas hasn't left either. The teams that have left are the ones that got an offer to somewhere they thought was better. If you actually think the Big Ten is this conference where everything is equal, you are wrong. OSU has their say. Michigan has their say. PSU has their say. Minnesota goes along. It just so happens the people in charge of OSU and Michigan, instead of making just themselves a bunch of money, have gotten together and helped the conference be extremely lucrative. Texas attempted to do that at least with aTm if not more. The people that have left or have thought of leaving were the ones who set up the infrastructure of the conference finances. These program, when the B12 formed, wanted it this way and now once Texas has taken advantage of that formation, they have bailed. It has been pointed out that the equal TV deal amounts to very little and IMO, that is how it should have been. Why should Texas have to give up everything to help us? Is it right for them to keep it all? No, but the league agreed to release 3rd tier rights. They then used that ability in a huge way and people got ****** because they couldn't.

Paragraphs, people, paragraphs. All blends together and hurts my eyes.

if the main thread only gets to 9900, i'm blaming this one for detracting posts

It sure would be nice to have something that resembles the old Big 8.

If we can get that, move up the dollars for each school, and (most importantly) make the conference stable, it would be great. I just want ISU in a BCS conference for the foreseeable future (no more of this ****).

I think I said the same thing you are trying to say here up above somewhere. But in two sentences

Who are you and what have you done with Rebecacy?

I'll need proof he's alive before sending ransom. I'll have 3 questions ready that only he can answer.

Don't worry RBCy! We're gonna get you back!!!!

Agree with rebecacy that the Big 12 is likely working on a scenario where we get to 12 teams, with or without Texas. And like cydsho said, if Texas wants to take their marbles and leave (highly unlikely), A&M may be back in. Imo a stable Big 12 by adding the likes of BYU, Pitt, Louisville, etc is by far the best scenario for ISU. Anybody that thinks we could do much recruiting in Texas from the Big East or Big 10 is fooling themselves, and I would also not want to have to recruit in Big East or Big 10 territory in football.

There won't a B12 without Texas. It simply won't happen. Even if it did, it would be the Big East only in the middle of the country. If that happens and aTm doesn't come back, where's the money coming from?

I agree. The B12 cannot survive without both TX and OU.

I hope we don't have to find out and don't think we will (can't see them leaving) but if they do, the Big Xii will be fine. Once stability is established in the form of written contract/bylaws (which should have been done last year) some very desirable teams will join and significantly expand our TV (and recruiting) footprint. You seem to think Texas is as important as Texas itself thinks it is. Nobody is irreplaceable.

You think Oklahoma will stay if Texas leaves? There's no way. So, without those teams, again, where's the money? Name a stable conference without money generators. I'm sorry, but BYU, Louisville and Pitt are replacing the money that leaves with the teams we had. Out only hope is that everyone stays, which I think, at this point, is a long shot.

I love how everyone has the fanatical hate of Texas and refuses to acknowledge their importance in the B12's situation. They create more revenue than any school in the nation. They may have the largest national following. I suppose you are also one that blames them for all of the troubles even thought they were the fourth team to look around last year.

Is it a case of putting an ultimatum to Texas and if they don't take it, then OU and ISU leave to the same place? That's what it sounds like if they are joined at the hip.

I took that as meaning we wanted the exact same things OU wants from Texas. OU doesn't care about Iowa State. OU has a landing spot.

Like I said, it's highly unlikely Texas doesn't stay with a re-vamped Big 12. But if they left they would still likely retain their traditional OU game in Dallas. OU still has that game, and a better chance to get to the national title game in a Big 12 with a championship game. I think UT could also take a p.r. hit within the state if they left the Big 12 for another conference. I think A&M will when they leave the conference as Texas is a Big 12 state, and many Texans just aren't going to forget that as long as the Big 12 still exists.

Using my best Socratic skills ......... "You seem very concerned about this. Even emotionally upset. What's really eating at you so much............?? Please tell me more??"

Now you vent for an hour or so with me asking open ended questions until you calm down some and then I say:

"I think things are going to be OK. I don't think it is as bad as you do, perhaps we should let it play out and see where we end up. But I have to be honest with you, I'm very confident that Iowa State is going to be just fine. And I need to tell you that the Big xii is doing all it can to not only survive but thrive - We have a tremendous university here with a long list of desirable attributes. "And it is not every school for themselves as some believe, we have built some very strong allies over the last couple years."

Then I get up and walk away.

I love this post, but you forget to mention the part where you get paid.
