Dan Beebe made it easier. Schools just got sick of him and Texas pushing its weight. Beebe also wasn't proactive in adding major programs until Aggy left. At some point, with now 6 schools minus Texas(out of the 12) looking to get or have gotten out of dodge, you can't say its a Pac 12 or SEC or Big Ten issue.

If Larry Scott was the Big 12 Commish over Dan Beebe, can you really say that this exact scenario would happen?

Fine, sure.

Here is what you fail to realize is that you Mason Jar loving boys made NO difference in whether the conference was dissolving or not. We would be fine without you and good riddance. This conference hinders on what OU and UT does not you guys. I hope you are happy beating Vandy and Kentucky every year because thats about it. Houston Nutt is probably chalking up an easy win against you deluisional waterheads.
 
I think at this point it does nothing but help our situation if KU gets an invite to the PAC 16. I like our chances as a package with KState and MU to the Big East. If Mizzou goes SEC, I like our chances in a knock down, drag out with TT, KSU and Baylor a lot better than I do with a traveling partner KU/KSU, TT and Baylor fight.

No link here but there are reports that have surfaced that say ESPN Radio has sources saying Texas turned down an offer from the Pac-12 and is now involved in preliminary discussions with the ACC.
For Texas, this thing is all about what the best option for The Longhorn Network will be. Much like the pipe dream rumors about Notre Dame joining the Big 12 because it would be allowed to keep its TV deal with NBC, the conference that offers up the best situation for TLN — which could include help from the conference office or regional networks — will probably land the Longhorns.
One recent report said the Sooners and Cowboys are prepared to make the move to the Pac-12, with or without Texas.
If Texas is talking ACC, or even Big 12, and the Sooners and Cowboys agree to go Pac-12, the time could be right for KU and Mizzou to jump in as the third and fourth teams in the deal. There won’t be time to waste, though. If KU and/or Missouri so much as hesitates for a second if an offer is extended, the offer could be pulled off the table.



If you're Kansas, and all of this is true, this whole thing boils down to a couple of simple questions.

  1. Do you jump at the chance at stability in the Pac-12, regardless of what that does to travel, recruiting, etc.?
  2. Do you wait out Texas and hope the Longhorns can once again find a way to save the Big 12?
  3. Do you shun the west coast and head to the Big East where a "western division" would make life easier in terms of travel and you would be able to remain with both of your biggest rivals in K-State and Missouri?

Wonder how Mizzou would feel about the PAC16. Reports had them not crazy about the SEC, so I wonder what they'd say about the Pacific coast?

And what if Texas, KU, and Mizzou all said no to the PAC? How would the PAC12 prez feel about adding the academic powers of Okla St. and Texas Tech?

If Texas joins the ACC, how many of us from the Big 12 come with them?
 
College Football going full on NFL with conferences spanning halfway across the country and regional rivalries destroyed is going to kill my interest. And it is going to kill off almost every school's Olympic sports in the process.

You really think Kansas would say no to the Pac 12? I can see Mizzou, because it sounds like they have a SEC invite.

I agree. This whole thing is insane. If you want a super league where all teams have at least 2-3 losses each year, you already have that option in the NFL.

But that only means that less students are getting opportunities to go to college, so it's no big deal. This is big-time college sports, man!

Somehow, it's become all about the money instead of that whole "providing opportunities" thing. I've given up on the illusion that these sports are building character. That argument probably didn't really hold up before, but it's really a sham now.

Agreed. They might as well start paying players and abolish olympic sports completely.
 
Just out of curiosity is there anything that the NCAA can do? I mean if they see that super conference will have a negative impact on student athletes, can they step in and destroy the system that created the super conferences in the first place?
 
Stupid question??? If Texas goes to the acc does that mean they will let them take tech Baylor n Houston with em??? If so it sounds perfect, they go to the acc, ku n mizzou to the PAC n we go with ksu to the big east, maybe pick up ecu for the ride. . .

Yep, more money, yay.. so that they can afford to build brand new facilities for 20 or so student athletes, not to gain any sort of advantage in the end, but just to keep the status quo.

The only ones that seem to actually benefit in the end are those doing the building of these facilities.

Is there a chance that all this would negatively impact women's athletics and, with Title IX, some legal dude will put an end to the madness?

Wishful thinking perhaps.

Only the federal govt can really take the money back out of all of this. If it would wield its power and take a look at the nonprofit situation of programs (or it could go even deeper and demand changes to athletics as conditions for federal funding), there could be a chance.

Dont see it happening though. Too much potential backlash from the fans of the 'haves'
 
So. If this ACC business is true what about this:

PAC16:OU/OSU/KU/KSU
ACC: UT/TT
SEC:MU/aTm
BE: ISU/BU/TBD

PAC: 16
ACC:14
SEC: 14
BE: 12/20
B1G:12

I could see TT getting nixed by ACC schools so maybe some renegotiating there (Baylor to avoid a lawsuit?) Regardless, that gives everyone homes.

Right. The facilities are cool and they're fun to brag about, but they only benefit an extremely limited bunch of people.

How did we get to the point that we need special lounges for guys on scholarship? They could just watch the same TVs as everybody else in the same places as everybody else.

Or we could build athletic dorms. That worked pretty well back in the day at Oklahoma and some other places.

It was stated there would be stiffer penalty for exit after NU/CU left. By all accounts this year, the same by-laws were reviewed to determine the exit of A&M, that was not what was stated after the loss of NU/CU. He should be fired for not doing his job to protect the interests of those remaining...

He kept it loose to favor UT. That is his problem.

I won't be legislated to begin with, but if the super-conference doomsday comes to pass, it may be realized in the courts.

Litigation from the death of the Big 12 perhaps could get far enough that hands get forced.
