The thing that I notice the most (now that I don't live in Iowa) is how Iowans work the butts off to get a job done - and done right.
So many other places people just want things done for them. Either by the government or by someone else. They refuse to dig in and get things done on their own. The work ethic and feeling of community is what I most miss about the state of Iowa. The south just doesn't have that.

Everyone has forgotten the one thing that gets us national recognition-- the caucuses and straw poll.

Right, but historically Iowa has been known as providing the best public school education in the country. We've slipped, absolutely. But it seems that efforts are underway to remedy the problems. I know a lot of people who have relocated to other states and discovered a public school system that is deplorable. They quickly realize how good they had it with the schools in Iowa. In a thread that is about what makes Iowa Iowa, I think one would have to be the state's commitment to great education.

Anyway, I'm with you. Brings a lot of attention to our state and makes us very unqiue.
