Survivor

They'd lose the audience that tunes in just for skimpy bikinis. Not going to happen.

This, they've said in the past that they will never go to a cold climate for numerous reasons. As already mentioned they want to show some skin but also the health risks from a cold climate are more dangerous and not nearly as easy to manage. It seems like a lawsuit waiting to happen when people start losing toes to frostbite.

Ashley and Natalie did let us know that Rob told them he had an immunity idol. That's why they didn't align with Andrea.

That's why the 3 girls should have voted Phil out when they had a chance. Then (assuming he didn't win immunity*) they could have taken Rob out next.

This also assumes that Ashley and Natalie had 1 fully functioning brain between them. I'm assuming the Survivor producers did not choose them for their cranial assets.

*He did, which would have goofed up that plan, but that's besides the point.

Why those girls never figured out why Rob was dragging Phil along is beyond me. I'm convinced they were just there to get as much TV exposure as possible. Natalie can't have thought she had a snowball's chance of winning, could she?

Redemption Island was a total bust, IMO. By the time the player was reintroduced into the game, there was only 1 tribe left. So if you weren't a member of that tribe initially, you'll get tossed right back out again. Or in Andrea's case, you just got voted out once. You're probably getting voted out again.
Personally, I wish they'd drop it altogether. Or bring them back a little earlier with immunity at the next Council. Or bring 2 back.

Yeah...I could do without redemption island next season but sounds like they are bringing it back again.

Eh, I don't mind it. I think I like it before the merge better than after the merge and I especially don't want them to bring them in as late as they did this year. I say send them to redemption island up until the point where people voted out get to be on the jury. After that there is no more redemption island.

I'm curious who the two people they will be bringing back for next season are. I think one will be Matt, but have no idea who the other one will be. I'm probably in the minority but I like to see returning players. It's fun to see how they change their gameplay from their original season and see if they learned anything.

I don't mind Redemption Island, but I don't see how it gives you a chance to actually come back.

If you win your way back into your old tribe, they still have #s on you, and they had a reason for voting you out once.

If you win and they send you to the other tribe, you're the one outsider. You're likely gone.

If they send you back for the merge, there is at least a chance that you can make a move by joining the other tribe, depending on #s, but you're still toast once that other tribe can make a move.

Redemption Island adds some nice challenge drama, but I don't think there's any realistic way to win the game from there. Therefore, it's pointless.

The thing is I would have played it the exact same way. Phil wasn't winning no matter who was up there with him he's the guy you want to face rather than Andrea in the final tribal council. So basically it came down to Rob vs Ashley in the final challenge with the loser being sent to the jury. Ashley had just won two in a row so it wasn't unthinkable.

If they were going to get rid of Rob it had to be earlier. The person who screwed up most (besides Matt) was Grant. I kept waiting for him to make a power move against Rob but it never happened and then Rob made the move against him.

Redemption island made it fun. It added to the paranoia of the regulars and the challenges were fun.

Somehow I was able to avoid the temption to read this thread and manage not to hear who won for the whole week till I could watch it on the DVR this past weekend.

I realize it's a little late in the discussion now but felt the urge to chime in. While I think given who made the final 3 Rob deserved to win, the rest of the cast was just stupid to never even make a move to try and vote him out earlier. Rob kind of played a Russell type game only with a better social game this time. He surrounded himself with the dumbest players in the game who were loyal to him till the end. Natalie had no chance, she rode Rob's decisions till the end and never made 1 move, Phillip was the village idiot that everyone would want to go up against in the final 3 and he had his chances to change the game too but also blindly followed Rob's lead.

I thought strategy wise this was one of the more boring seasons. I was really hoping Matt or Mike, maybe even Grant would have come back from Redemption and made things interesting because neither were going to let Rob get off easy and Mike likely would have had the Zapatara vote on the jury if he made the final 3. Once the merge happened and people refused to make bold moves to go against Rob you pretty much saw this final 3 coming and it became pretty predictable who was getting voted off most weeks. Just made me wonder how some of the players let Rob do what he did without making him nervous even once, it's almost as if they had never watched Survivor before to know all the do's/dont's of the game.

CydTracked- I like your idea, and your self-control to wait that long.

I loved Matt, and I hoped he could do something, but after watching, there was no chance for Matt in the social game. He just wasn't wise enough dealing with that.

I'd like to see Matt get another shot to see if he learned anything.

The only explanation I can think of for them not voting out Rob was that they all thought that they could beat him because he blindsided people and his wife had already won.

You're giving them too much credit. No thought involved.

So does Rob come back another time to see if people will figure out to gang up on him?

Watching people that refused to be anything but stupid about playing this game was amazing.

That was seen on TV. The show definitely has a way of shedding light on some things and not others. They create certain types of characters/roles via what is shown and what isn't.

I'm not saying these people did absolutely everything they could. But I refuse to believe they did virtually nothing like what was aired.
