***Video Board Renderings Released***

Naturally the videoboard would be hanging off of that.

I just assumed if Hilton was in that endzone, we would bowl in the south endzone and then put the videoboard on that end. I could be mistaken, I might have to contact JP. :wink:

We are springing for the more expensive version and getting velcro with those vinyl numbers. Wind shouldn't be a factor. :smile:

That's probably what bugs me most — it's especially apparent with the angle of the pic you posted — if they had just bowled the lower level on that end to fit the Jacobsen building, they could've let the south end just be "nothing" for a while.

The Jack has a permanent Work in Progress feel to it. So, whenever there are upgrades — even if they're good improvements in themselves — it seems "tacked on."

Some of this could be blamed on the original concept, and what the long-term goals were; maybe budget issues got in the way, as well as changes in "stadium science."

I'd guess other college stadiums have run into similar hurdles — someone who's more knowledgable about that could probably enlighten me.

Oregon's board is a little bit smaller than ours will be, but this should give a good idea of how it will look at night. It's placed at about the same height as ours as well.

If anything, these pictures should show the non-architects just how good we have it with the Jacobson building. Talk about a whole bunch of cookie-cutter non inspirational design...other stadiums are always trying to do it for cheap. Holy lord, Kansas State looks like they have a mental institution next to their stadium...but that is probably a good thing because I could imagine all the people that would need to be checked into a mental institution if they lived/went to school in Manhattan, Kansas.

And you know what, I bet their fanbase would love nothing more but for that building to come down, and come down fast, and be replaced by something at least a quarter as nice as the Jacobson Building. The sad thing for them at least is that it will never happen, because they didn't try to do the right thing first when they had the money to do it at all. They can no longer justify replacing it for 45-60 million now because they would lose the "value" of the actual space that they do have, built for (what looks like) 3 million.

So yes, Iowa State fans DO care about what this thing is going to look like...and they SHOULD care, especially about how it will tie in holistically. The concept is good, the execution (from what we see in the renderings) is not. Have they said anything about actually hiring an architectural firm to make sure this is integrated well? Daktronics is not an architectural design firm...these renderings look like something I would expect to review with shop drawings.

Yea it's an incredibly hideous structure, but the setting is still pretty cool. They did get a new video board that I thought was really cool though.

I just want to see the pillars for our new scoreboard covered eventually. Regardless, I'm still more than pleased about the new video board and sound system.

The building looks great from that angle. The main complaints i could see against it would be:

1. the roof and its angled-ness which makes it not really fit in with everything around.
2. the building being too small for that endzone
3. the building being in the north endzone (preventing the bowl being there, which couldve blocked more wind)

Though a lot of that is hindsight being 20\20. At the time that building was the best we could afford and a bowl wasnt even on the table.

could you demo the Jacobsen building and build around the new video/scoreboard or not, I do not think the building is that bad just does not tie into jack Trice stadium at all in my opinion, but I am no where near a designer. Is it possible at all to put seats in the north endzone or not? Like put seats in the hillside that comes right next to the building?

This is a HUGE step up from the current video board and display. I'm so excited for the season and also the new sound system. Neil Diamond is really going to rock between the 3rd and 4th quarter break :spinny:

Were you even being serious with this?!?! There's absolutely no room for advertising. I know it may look nicer without ads... but if we want to be able to afford something like this, as well as hire out an operator to run this thing... we need to bring in some ad revenue. And secondly... these aren't even our colors. Whoever did the rendering of this should have used our school colors.
