Playing in the CBI, which is nationally looked at as a "laugher" is never good for image. (Especially in the eyes of younger recruits)

This argument holds no water. St. John's played in it a couple of years ago or so and has an absolutely loaded recruiting class coming in next year.

This thread just kills me. There are so many points to be made here that I don’t even know where to begin. Basically, IMO, it boils down to two things – do the players want to play and can we break even. To break even we’d only need to sell 6000 tickets at 10 bucks apiece, not counting concessions. We’d easily break even and probably make some cash on it.

The “The CBI should not exist and it’s a travesty!” argument: What is the point of college basketball? For me, it’s to entertain me. Watching games entertains me. Thus, I would like them to play. If you feel like our team needs to live up to some ideal you must have had a really rough decade.

The “But they could get hurt!” argument: They can get hurt in practice. Should we wrap Scotty and the rest of those returning in bubble wrap until next season? I highly doubt the likelihood of them getting hurt in the next 5 games is any greater than them getting injured in the next 5 months.

Now if the players don’t want to play, we shouldn’t do it. But I would be surprised if the players would rather just play each other. They have 6 months of just playing each other ahead of them. The CBI is dumb and probably shouldn’t exist. But it does exist, so I don’t know why we wouldn’t want to compete if it is what the players want. We have some serious egos on this site if they can’t handle a college basketball team play additional games.

If the players are on board, then I say do it. If there is concern that nothing will be gained by starting 3 seniors, make sure that players who are returning are playing meaningful minutes when the game is still clearly in doubt. Heck start Godfrey, Railey, Christopherson, Ejim and Bubu if that is the concern. Then they can experience the full pressure and hype (if the CBI yields much) leading up to and starting a post-season game. The seniors can rotate in.

Frankly I think there is something to gain even if 3 seniors start. And they have earned it.

What makes you think a 17-15 team with a 10-8 record in the Horizon league will make the CBI? And Northern Colorado won their league so they are in the NIT at worst. Teams in last years CBI tournament averaged 20 wins. I don't understand why a true "SOULja" wouldn't want to watch or play more games.

Because we already get 12 of these early in the year to pad the win total in the beginning. I want to see the program get good, and play good teams.

If we hosted the CBI, no more than 7-8,000 are going. It will be like the non-conference games over Christmas Break....

I'm with you on this. But this team playing in the CBI this year really doesn't prevent it in the future.

Last year, a 16-15 George Washington team made it. Also Indiana State, a 17-15 MVC team made it as well. That's why I think a 17-15 team in a crap conference will make it.

Also, Oregon State, a 14-18 team made it to the CBI. I firmly believe that if Iowa State could have played in this any year in the past.

The A-10 and MVC are significantly better conferences than the Big Sky (Northern Colorado) for sure. And the A-10 is way better than the Horizon, MVC is more debatable. Plus what about teams like VCU that ended with 27 wins, or IUPUI with 25 and Morehead St with 24?

Why don't some of you self centered individuals, who see this as it relates to YOUR ego, wake up and realize there is a group of seniors who would do anything to play another game together, who would love nothing more than to go out on a high note, who would love nothing more than playing in front of the Hilton faithful.

Quit making this about YOU, and think about the players.

I've stated that even though the CBI is a joke and I'm against it, it's up to the players. How do you know that they want to play in it? I assume they probably do but how do you know? It's been a long year and maybe those that want to see a CBI game are being selfish by wanting them to continue in a ****-ant tournament. We've all seen teams lay an egg in these tournaments becasue they aren't motivated. I'm just saying that this coin has 2 sides.

Hell yeah it would! I love watching my team play! Any excuse I can get to watch more games gets me excited! I would love to be playing in the NIT or NCAA but thats (probably) not going happen.

The Horizon league is much better than the Valley. The Big Sky is also better than the Patriot League this year.

Think about this: we got just a hair above 10,000 for the last home game of the year... That's tickets sold, not butts in seats. That includes all those tickets that didn't get used.... But some on here think we will get 10,000 for a weeknight game over spring break when all of the students were gone, against a team a casual fan has never heard of?
