According to David Ubben and ESPN, only one Cyclone football player was invited to the NFL combine. David Sims. How Collin Franklin did not get an invite simply astounds me. Allen Resiner is going to be there for crying out loud. A little upset about this one.

Ridiculous....

Happy for David though.

Not being invited to the combine is not the end of the world, Franklin will be a steal for the team that picks him up either in the draft or as a free agent.

This. The team that actually puts in the homework will get a very impressive steal. I hope to see David dominate the combine. I'm very curious to see his 40. His vertical should be one of the best there. That guy can JUMP! He's also ripped like a mofo, and should have a high number of bench reps.

Alan Reisner is good and will be yet another Hawkeye TE NFL-er.

LOL..."for crying out loud"....:twitcy:

Seriously....Reisner is a better NFL TE. Period. Iowa fans have been saying that for the last 18 months....Franklin isn't a great blocker. You have to block in the NFL. Reisner can block AND is a threat in the receiving game. Thus he is the better pro prospect. It isn't that complicated.

This is pretty much all true. Franklin is not a terrible blocker, and he improved a lot in 2010, but he will not be a traditional TE in the NFL by any means. He is going to have to fit into a system similar to New England's or Green Bay's to have success. I think he will have success but he is going to be overlooked by most teams.

Reisner will be drafted simply from being in Iowa's system. They produce tight ends like a puppy mill. Franklin is just as talented but it will take him more work to get recognized.

Reisner is solid, and will no doubt be a good pro. Franklin's blocking won't be much of an issue, his experience in the slot will be helpful. NFL teams specialize so much someone will know how to use him. I mean you can hardly call Dallas Clark a TE based on the way he's used, I'm not putting Franklin in Clarks category just using him as an example of how teams can be creative with TE's.

Why ru on this site?????

Wow. I got slammed a few weeks back for suggesting that Franklin wasn't anything special in the NFL's eyes. Am I still the idiot?

Doesn't mean he can't turn into a solid special teams contributor someday down the road, but there are lots of prospects exactly like him all over the country.

Because guys like Antonio Gates an Vernon Davis are such great blockers. No wait, they are not. They are great pass catchers though, with tremendous size and athleticism. Sorry hawkfan, go populate your broken board. Collin Franklin is 10x the athlete that Reisner is and should have had a chance to show this at the combine.

Do you watch the NFL? A lot of TE's are called receiving TE's and aren't good blockers or rarely used to block. Heck Dallas Clark is one of them.

Reisner is shorter and slower than Franklin, and doesn't have as good of hands. In no world is he a better TE prospect. But kudos to him for getting an invite. It is in doubt because of where he played college football and not his actual skill level. Heck Collin Franklin had more catches in 1 1/2 than Reisner did in 4 years.

What really hurts Franklin is who he plays for and that he had H1N1 last season and couldn't showcase his skills during his junior season.

Clark and Moeaki are good, but must of the iowa TEs are struggling. Chandler and Myers with a whopping 17 catches between them in 6 seasons. They are only getting drafted bc of Kirks friendships

Yeah, NFL teams are notorious for wasting positions on players based on being friends with their college coach.

I don't think Franklin is a bad blocker, but he's definitely not great.

If you're going to take a TE who will be primarily a receiver, there are far better options out there than Franklin.

When he improves his blocking, he will be good as a receiver and a blocker. His best bet to stick with a team is to be well rounded because he'll never be great as just a receiver and definitely not as just a blocker.

This is the crux of the problem with ISU football. We don't get the talent needed to compete in a top BCS conference. Iowa has 9 players at the combine.

We need to close the talent gap with the top schools in the B12, or the best we can expect CPR to do is win 5-7 games in our good years, and 3-5 in our down years.

All I can say is.....wow.

Franklin wasn't on a lot of people radar since he was sick all last year. But its a no-brainer to say he will be playing in the NFL, esp. since he has the size, speed, hands, and ability they are looking for
