Am I the only one that's amazed at how low the catching stats are for our wide-outs? Williams leads the receivers with 29, Darks 28, Reynolds 24, SJ 16 and Lenz has 12 on the year. I understand that Franklin has taken most of the catches with 51, but we don't even have a wideout that averages 3 balls a game. Isn't that pretty low? What's the future look like next year with our wide-outs and are we recruiting any?

How many completions do we average per game? barely double digits. and yes, that is extremely low considering how many short passes we attempt.

we lack speed obviously. And play making ability. And sure handedness.

All good spread teams have at least one or two of those guys on their teams. We will someday, but not quite yet.

They keep bringing in multiple WRs every year and none of them are worth a crap.

QB play and receiver play go hand in hand. gotta be able to CONSISTENTLY get them the ball.
Not sure I agree with that we don't seem to have a problem getting the ball to our TE. If our TE wasn't catching the ball that might be true. It seems the QB can throw the ball to guys that are open.

Are you serious? None of those WR's mentioned are Rhoads recruits. Look out next year or the year after for Jarvis West. He is a playmaker and also a Rhoads recruit.

One thing I may add to the conversation here...WR's stats typically look much much better with a good accurate QB. Peyton Manning is making a patch work group of WR look like studs right now because he is deadly accurate. I agree that we need more speed and playmakers but a good QB will go a long way too.

not trying to be a downer, but do you know something the rest of us dont know?

He was brought in because he was supposed to be super fast. But Rhoads himself said that Josh Lenz is still the fastest WR. And he runs a 4.5x. Not game changing speed, but solid nonetheless. We could use more guys with Lenz type speed.

Quite honestly I dont buy into the fact that Lenz is the fastest WR. I believe that he was talking about the WRs getting playing time. Of course its my opinion that West will be a stud, but Chris and CPR have both said great things about the kid and if you watch some of his highlight videos they are damn impressive.

This sounds pretty familiar. "Just wait until Chizik's WR recruits get here!" etc. etc.

We hear the same thing every year about how great our receivers look, and then they flop in the season. I realize that having an accurate QB who can stay upright is a big part of production at the WR position, but the QB can only do so much when the WR's don't get separation, don't run crisp routes, seemingly drop more balls than they catch when they do get hit in the hands, and when they do make the catch they aren't able to make the first guy miss and break a long gain.

AA had been hitting guys when they get separation and get in space, but those opportunities were few and far between.

After Chizik left you could tell that his recruits weren't going to be major factors. All of what you said is correct but watch this kids film and tell me you aren't excited to see what he can do. Everyone talks about separation but its hard to create MAJOR separation when you're running short routes. I need a little help from Chris. Chris have you heard or watched some impressive stuff about West?

Consistancy at QB is key. We're not a threat to throw the ball anywhere beyond 10 yards....so DBs play bump coverage, and Safeties play at 12 yds because they know we cant throw a deep ball.

Also, what is everyone's love with the word separation? You act like a WR needs to be open by 10 yards. Almost every slant route run in college, the DB is on the WR's hip and it takes an accurate QB to lead him and put it where the DB cant get it.

Couldn't agree more! The deep threat showed in the T Tech game but all of a sudden wasn't called upon for the rest of the season. Herman I'm looking at you.
