Standing for the Whole Game

First quarter, first defensive series. Got yelled at to sit down, exact words were "skinhead, sit down". A couple things...

- Our entire row and those ahead/behind us were standing.
- Skinhead is very much the derogatory term (IMO).
- Jack Trice Stadium is not a library or church.

Really ticked me off...I have no hate toward this old man but I do think if he wants respect he can also show it.

His actions simply motivated us to stand more. If you want to sit for the game, there is the couch at home or box/club seats.

And this is the other side of it that I can see too. If you want people in front of you to sit, be polite about asking them.

This isn't real complicated.

Good point. Further, if you offer to buy the guy a beer and high five him about the Cyclones, it shows respect for him while you are asking him to sit/stand.

we have lame fans:
They don't want to stand. They would prefer to just have free seats. They do the wave and cheer while our offense is trying to run plays and then sit on their hands when the defense is out. Have of them prefer to drink the third quarter rather than watch it. You can tell ISU has never been very good because our fans are as football stupid as you can get. These same people then can't understand why big schools think we don't belong in their league.

Generally we've had a lame program - the fans fall in line. I do wish our fans were more involved at the game. The ironic thing is, during a timeout or break, the fans that have been sitting during the game (and during very key parts of it) will stand up. Same thing happens during our basketball games. I never have and never will understand it.

Sad thing is, even in a win - Cyclone fans were seek out something to complain about. I swear it's a subliminal message hidden in our logo or something.

I'm all for standing when the situation calls for it. I make sure to stand and be as loud as I can when it's 3rd down and the Cyclone defense is on the field, or when a big and/or spectacular play is made, or when the officials make a horrible call, etc.

What I don't understand is the fan who really doesn't cheer a whole lot more than everyone else does and thinks he'll be able to see the game a WHOLE lot better if he stands the entire. And that doesn't apply to just football games at JTS, but any sporting event I go to.

I think standing the whole game has a bigger impact on basketball than football because of the quick pace.

But who cares who stands or sits during a football game. To each his own as long as they are being courteous to others around them and supporting the team to the best of their ability.

What started as a great student effort to support their team has gone too far. However, it now seems that people all over the stadium are standing through the whole game. And they look at folks who don't as if we aren't supporting the team.

Well, my feet hurt when I stand for long periods of time. Further, I actually like it when something like a key third down brings the fans to their feet. It was our football sense of how to act as a crowd in these situations to help our team that previously distinguished us as a well-educated fanbase.

Maybe we should sell "standing" tickets and "seats."

Man, do I sound old, but my feet hurt!

nope. how about i just continue to stand in my section. again-i care about me, myself, and i. and if you don't feel the same way about your life-that's your problem not mine. there's a saying that i love, and i'll quote it below. read it, take it to heart.

Man—every man—is an end in himself, not the means to the ends of others. He must exist for his own sake, neither sacrificing himself to others nor sacrificing others to himself.

How were you in team sports?

Hey, how did you get my picture?

Can't remember if it was Mother Teresa or Jesus that said that.

I had a lady behind me at the bowl game last year demanding that I sit down - really wanted to punch her in the face. She was knitting a sweater because she didn't care about the game and yet wanted me to sit down.

I think it is a bit ridiculous to stand the whole game. I have the seat back cushions. I like to sit and watch the game. During the key plays I don't mind everyone standing and cheering. But to stand the whole game??? The standing and cheering on the team during the key plays is a bit meaningless then IMO.

If people want to stand then they must want a higher vantage point from which to see. Therefore the UPPER decks would provide the people who want to stand the whole game with the best view.

Perhaps she was knitting because she couldn't see the game???:eek:

The Chiefs fans stand most of the game. Arrowhead is considered to be the closest to college of any NFL venue. It is also the most intimidating. I noticed fans standing outside the students section and thougth it looked pretty awesome. Stay home if you frown on this.

From what I could tell she lived in the area and her husband wanted to go to the game and she just got pulled along.

I was still in shock that some one would be knitting at a football game - I guess she was shocked that people would stand for more than 20 mins???

Knitting?? at a football game?? at a bowl game, even?? :biglaugh::biglaugh:
Knitting at a football game goes together as well as drinking beer in church.

Gotta love the macho "you're not a fan if you don't stand the entire game and we'll be a midmajor soon enough all because of you" persona.

Especially when a lot of those people arent really cheering any more than anyone else in the stadium, and often less, theyre just standing there. They just want everyone to see and KNOW that theyre a better fan than everyone else.
