Is it not selfish to make people sit just because you don't want to stand?
WHY did they put bleachers in the stadium anyway? Next time I go to the movies, I think I will stand.

This is one of the dumbest arguments that I have ever seen.
Wow. Lots of passion in this discussion.
Standing for the entire length of a game when people around you are asking you to sit down makes you a jerk (unless you're in the student section).
Sitting for the length of a game doesn't make someone any less of a fan. Some people choose to enjoy the game sitting down. Not everyone is a stand until your legs fail, and scream until you're hoarse type of fan. While you may not like it, you should at least respect it.
And don't tell me they shouldn't be at the game if that's the way they want to watch. Last time I checked we could use the fans in the stands. A quiet, sitting fan is still a million times better than an empty seat. As long as they're a Cyclone fan and supporting the team in their own way, why ruin the experience for them and drive them away?
If it bothers the people around you, be respectful and stick to standing when the occasion calls for it.
I don't have a problem with people sitting. I was just turning his logic around on him. I'm gonna stand during the game, and i won't be happy when people tell me to sit down because they can't see. They can move if they can't see. I have never been to a game that didn't have open seat within 20-30 feet of where i was sitting.
I also disagree with the thought that a continuously loud crowd ruins the 12th man effect. I'd like to see JTS loud and then get louder for key plays...not quiet and then loud for key plays.
Change the lower level to the true fans who want to stand, jump, scream, and do whatever to support their team. Then move all the whiny old farts who have nothing better to do besides ***** and aren't smart enough to watch it on TV or get a feed on the computer and hook it to the TV up to the top level where they should be able to see over the true fans. Problem solved. Oh and for the one who actually want to stand and cheer the tickets should be cheaper.
Knitting?? at a football game?? at a bowl game, even?? :biglaugh::biglaugh:
Knitting at a football game goes together as well as drinking beer in church.
People can't move just because they can't see. It is reserved seating where I sit. I don't have a problem with people standing and cheering during key plays and drives. NO problem. But to insist on standing the whole game is just plain rude. It makes NO sense. And your insistence on standing has more to do with your childlike selfish mentality than anything else. Grow up. People pay big money to watch the game. If you truly were a Cyclone fan you would accommodate them so they can see so they will support the team.
Let's just simplify this. Everyone (students too) sit down. We have now placed a 3 inch rectal electric probe that you must sit on during the game. A moderate charge will be applied throughout the entire stadium so we all know when to stand and yell as one!
cyclONE nation!
I Like IT!
What started as a great student effort to support their team has gone too far. However, it now seems that people all over the stadium are standing through the whole game. And they look at folks who don't as if we aren't supporting the team.
Well, my feet hurt when I stand for long periods of time. Further, I actually like it when something like a key third down brings the fans to their feet. It was our football sense of how to act as a crowd in these situations to help our team that previously distinguished us as a well-educated fanbase.
Maybe we should sell "standing" tickets and "seats."
Man, do I sound old, but my feet hurt!
Why not? I have been advocating for separate "standing encouraged" sections for years now. I don't know of any reason why it couldn't be done. This should be good. Personally, I like to stand for most if not all of the game. I got a little pissy with an older guy at the Insight Bowl last year because he wanted me to sit down. I was more than a little drunk so I probably overreacted. Fortunately my buddy calmed me down before I did something stupid. But I now understand there are those that don't want to or can't stand the whole game.
Not sure how we could possibly resolve it. No way we could have standing and sitting sections.
Exactly.People can't move just because they can't see. It is reserved seating where I sit. I don't have a problem with people standing and cheering during key plays and drives. NO problem. Many of the bigger supporters of Cyclone athletics are older people that can't really stand on their feet for an entire game. And it is their donations that make it possible for the facilities to be continually upgraded.
The bolded statement is false.Exactly.
My other favorite thing in this thread is how somehow those who stand the entire game are equated with being the loudest. Thats not true. Many of the sitting sections will be just as loud, and many of those standing in the 'standing sections' are only standing because they have to to have any chance of seeing the game (or are starting the wave or having a towel fight instead of watching the game at all). Standing does not all of a sudden make a crowd louder, though it may make it quieter as less people come to the game because they cant see whats going on because of the people standing in front of them.
A thought, and im no stadium engineer, but id bet sight lines are designed from the sitting perspective, otherwise we'd have more vertical difference in between rows to accomodate seeing better while standing. In this case, this is why sitting is the 'default' position, and if you're blocking someone's view the whole game *you* are the one in the wrong.
