It was actually quite the contrary...he won a few academic awards in high school and was chosen to attend the Super Bowl in some capacity as a student-reporter due to his character and off the field achievement.
They should give the OP the power to delete say the last 4 pages of bickering. Please just rumors and facts pertaining to Sims. This is not a Clayborne or Iowa thread.
CPR said Sims would be on the team this fall and that more info should follow in the next 24 to 48 hours.

Where did he say he would be on the team? All he said was there would be more light shed on the matter in the next 24-48 hours. Nothing about his status.
"He's still on the depth chart," coach Paul Rhoads said Monday. "Even with a worst-case scenario, he's going to be on the team.

Not sure how to feel about this line.
I suppose the optimistic view would be that CPR knows some specifics and Sims isn't involved in theft of the card and/or credit card fraud.
Because I have to admit, if he did steal it and used it - I have a problem with this decision.

three things I see in this:
1) College Kids make mistakes, always have, always will.
2) the severity of those mistakes pre-digital media was often unknown unless they were serious enough for significant coverage "see robbing a Burger King as an example". Generally I agree beating someone up for $4 and cell phone is a bad deal and generally I think the PP situation sounds pretty bad - but all of us have likely done something in College that if under the microscope of the internet would likely sound quite a bit worse than it actually was. Example: I was at a riot in Ames, spin that to say "I particpated in a Riot and was charged" Sounds much worse, many people that were just there got maced and in some cases charged even though they weren't doing anything other than trying to get the hell out of there.
3) We internet junkies now get to weigh in and judge the character of the kids based on the mistakes they reportedly made ad nauseum.
I have no idea what Sims did or didn't do, but I think if we want to be relevant and winning more than the we are tougher on discipline than you contest- we have to let the coaches take the chances they feel are justifiable, after all - if the Coach is wrong, its his political capital he is using up not ours.
That's a lot of typing. How about this:
If he did it, he's guilty of a felony and shouldn't be playing.
End. Of. Story.
Actually - I beg to differ, never quite that simple - to be proven guilty of a felony - you first have to be charged and then once you are charged - Due Process generally allows for a judge and jury - which may not be known for some time but I suppose we should expect our coaches to make that judgement since I am sure they are privy to all of the details of a criminal investigation? after all we all know the kids that are charged are all guilty right - on the other hand many are guilty and aren't charged due to a lack of evidence or plead down. That's a lot of typing. Unbelievably, the CR Gazette thus far has reported nothing on Sims yet to my knowledge? I have to give them credit for that at least.
The Rag jumped on it before anyone really knew anything at all yet. They love to report any kind of "possible" bad news about ISU.
