ABC 5: Hoiberg - Done Deal

I'm mixed and think this could go very bad. But it's definitely interesting and will bring tickets and ultimate (blind) support. It could be the home run or a really ugly situation.

Maybe Fred will be a one year "interim" coach. If it works out, great, if not, he's got an easy exit next year with everybody saving face and Fred playing the one year hero role?

With Grayer in tow, and ideally Nurse, too, I could get very excited about this. More so than Billie.

The Mayor with quality assistants -- options include Nurse, Grayer, TJ and Morgan (for realz) -- could make for an exciting group.
I would be pumped if Morgan came back as an assistant coach it probably won't happen but him and TJ's recruiting would make an excellent team.

I don't get this....JP's administration talking to the media before an official announcement???? Me thinks he is going to be an assistant under the guy they are really hiring.

The way that's worded, I disagree. Additionally, you don't go out to hire an assistant. That's the head coach's job.

I wouldn't have gone this route but I love it. Freddy is a smart dude, and he will figure it out, it isn't like being a head coach is splitting the atom.

Excited to see Freddy roaming the sidelines at Hilton.

I'm not sure you really have an assistant signed before you worry about your coach. But valid point, I guess you never know.

We now have an in with the kids of a whole lotta NBA guys.
I'd rather do this then pay the Dayton guy big bucks for what would probably be GMac 2.0.

True that, the Siena guy could still be available also, luckily he is already gone. I look at it as a risk reward type deal. Remember Cael.

Can you imagine the PR nightmare if this doesn't work out and we have to fire the most popular player in school history a few years down the road?

Hopefully doesn't come to that but I said that exact same thing to a co-worker. Not only Fred but having to fire Grayer as well if he is on the staff.

can he recruit players im gonna say no...umm can he coach umm you dont no lol this is a werid hire if you ask me...we will never be on top of the big 12 again :(

Cael took over one of the top wrestling programs in the country. Its easy to coach there because you always get top athletes. ISU basketball is at the bottom of the country. Hoiberg better be some miracle worker.

One thing I've always respected about JP is that he is willing to take a risk. When JP hired Paul Rhoads I thought he took the safe out, but it turns out he hired a great coach that sold JP that he had a plan for success and that he could execute that plan.

I fully believe that JP sees the same attributes in Fred Hoiberg.

I hope Fred is running to Iowa State and not just running away from the T-Wolves. I know he's been unhappy up there with the new GM...
