Billy Gillispie

I guess since sportstalkmike has a grudge with the guy we shouldnt go after a potential savior:jimlad:

The casual fan would be thrilled with Billy.

I told the my Dad, the casual fan, that the thought was that McDermott might be gone and Billy G was the name they were talking about. He was non-commital until I mentioned the rehab and the 4 OWI's. It did not go over well.

So your dad, the causal fan, had no opinion until a non-causal fan introduced bias.

I am one of those guys that loves coaching changes. When Kentucky was looking to fire BG I was all over their boards and heard a lot of unflattering things about Billy. Many said there was a mistreatment of players with physical and verbal abuse. The poster was well respected on the Kentucky boards. This same Kentucky poster is the one who broke the Calipari to Kentucky story on the fan boards over there. He must have been connected. I also heard that Kentucky was going to take the case to court. They claimed they had just cause to not pay the buyout, I do not know what came of this.

I introduced the truth. That we would be taking a chance with a guy that has a drinking problem. Not to mention the other stufff Matt said.

I wonder how many here rip on Floyd yet would welcome Billy here.

I sure hope that number is zero.

It may be the truth, but it is also bias.
I could tell my dad that we are going to hire a guy that took a Big 12 program from 0-16 in conference to 8-8 and the first winning season in 11 years. He then went on to the second round of the NCAA's the next year. In Season Three, he brought them to the Sweet 16. Before the stop in the Big 12, he put together a top-25 recruiting ranking at UTEP, and reached The Dance with them as well. I could go on and say, after doing so well, he reached the pinnacle of CBB, and took UK to the NCAA. In fact, in 7 years of coaching, he only missed post-season play once. Unfortunately, he was human, and let some personal problems get the best of him. However he has recognized that getting a DUI is a horrible problem, went out and got help, and now is reportedly better and looking for a second chance.

All of the above is the truth.

I think the biggest thing this thread has shown is that Iowa State fans are still looking for reasons to be hopeful.

I seriously doubt Billy Gillespie would ever be considered for the job here. I would even doubt he would want the job here.

But the people on here are so tired of losing, the thought of a guy that did what BCG did at A & M is pretty damn appealing.

It's called hope. There is nothing in the present situation that gives any hope for next year, let alone the future.

why would BG not want to be here? You think he is going to be up for any "high" profile jobs? The guy got kicked out of UK for partying and losing......just finished up rehab. I think he would be lucky if ISU offered him a job.

I would rather have Floyd come back though - again a guy that would be lucky if ISU offered him a job.

Why not? Nice job in a power conference with a hungry fanbase. Gets a chance at redemption. With any success, he could easily make it back to one of the elites. Which is the problem I have, like many others. He will Chizzzzz us in a heartbeat.

official: we want BG thread

i'm all for any coaching change, but i really think this guy could bring some fire to ISU he won in the big 12 with Texas A&M, he couldnt be any worse then the coach we have now

Official: No BG thread

It would be good for a small time, then we are back where we started when he leaves.

Well, unlike Chiz, BG would have to do something right to get poached. I'm talking like go to the Sweet 16 in his third year, or something to that extent. I'm fine with him leaving for a better job then, because we could be more likely to bring in someone else good.

If Chiz had gotten something done before he left here, we wouldn't hate him. We hate him for giving us a couple of crappy years, and running away with his tail between his legs, not man enough to face his players.

I don't think this will happen, but I agree with this statement 100%

How long has that ESPN Insider article about Gillispie and ISU been up? Is that article the source of this speculation or is it the other way around?

DUIs:

Floyd - 0
Gillispie - 4

I can forgive or forget all the other stuff if he's "cleaned it up", but 4 DUIs is absolutely unacceptable for me. He's just damn lucky he didn't kill himself or someone else.

I will literally freak out on the air if Jamie Pollard hires Billy G in Ames. He is HORRIBLE on so many fronts!

I would join you in that freakout. It isn't going to happen, Pollard has way too much riding on the next basketball coach to make a huge gamble like that. Absolutley zero chance Pollard hires him. If BG wasn't winning by year 2 they would both be run out of town.
