Barnes Decision at 3:10 on Friday

If anyone goes out of their way, takes time out of their day, and makes the trip to Ames High just to boo the kid if he chooses someone other than ISU, then that is extremely sad, and I would be very disappointed if an ISU fan did this.

I was thinking about this. I know if I lived in the area I would not be going to this press conference. Seriously, how many adults would do that?

I can see the possibility of a few current ISU students that are big fans making their way to AHS but I would bet most of the crowd will be family and friends.

Just received a response back from Ames High - the wearing of ISU attire is welcome for those attending Friday...
What, like they're going to say "No, Please don't wear any ISU gear, despite the fact that's the University located in the city of Ames. Instead, we'll be handing out complementary Duke/KU/UNC shirts to all attendees."

Seriously. Everyone is reading WAY too much into everything right now.

I'm not sure if this has been said, but ISU has fared well in the McDermott era when recruits announce their school choice on more than local TV. Colvin announced last year on Comcast...and he chose the good guys obviously. We're 1-0 as far as I can remember. Maybe I missed a player or two that I'm not thinking of, but I think Colvin was the only one to announce on national TV. Just another meaningless thing to give us more of a reason to believe something good will happen on Friday:smile:

Something to watch for re: KU -

Mario Little, a senior SF, is considering redshirting this season. If it is announced he is redshirting, I believe that it is a pretty strong sign that Harrison won't be going to KU. Little likely would not want to sit out during a potential national championship season only to be behind a freshman for playing time next season.

Just something to watch for until Friday's announcement.

I just looked at a Duke board and they don't even talk about ISU in all of this. Quite funny really.

It's astonishing that the state of North Carolina hasn't imploded from the combined arrogance of Duke and UNC fans.

Their meltdowns will be fun to read on Friday:yes:

You don't go there to boo, you go to see local hometown kid and #1 recruit in the country announce where he is going with your favorite team ISU being a possibility. I was there when Mac was announced as head coach and when Chizik was announced. This is similar, just with a very uncertain outcome.

I'd guess if he announces ISU the place goes crazy.

If he announces UCLA, UNC, or Duke he gets some boos 1/4 or 1/2 the people. Most people stick around for the press to ask why not ISU. Then people start leaving.

If he announces KU the place erupts in boos. People are leaving. Not pretty. Shouldn't have been announced like this.

I wasn't going to go. Now I'm going. I have to see this if he picks ISU. It would be history making for ISU.

For the record if he picks UCLA, UNC, or Duke I'll clap nicely, very briefly, and stick around for the press questions. If he picks KU I won't boo, but I'll walk out during the thing.

Maybe in the spirit of Iowa Hawkeye fans, people won't boo Harrison, but they may boo the decision.:jimlad:

Put me in the camp that thinks this public invited scenario may not be a bad thing. It certainly would have been just as easy to have it on TV with invited friends/family. Choosing against ISU with ISU fans in attendance will be awkward at best.

While this is standard for big time recruits, how often does that recruit live in the same small town as a major college, have that school in the running, and then pick a school that's about 18 hours drive away with a room full of local people (most probably fans of the school in the town they live in)?

While I'm not saying he's certainly coming to ISU, the fact that all of this is going down the way it is makes me more optomistic.

Yeah, if he isnt coming to ISU, then the unofficial visit he took there this past weekend had to be a little awkward. He has a very strong relationship with Mac and the players. Kinda sad to "flirt" with them in the midnight hour if he isnt going to ISU.

Not sure why you think it's wrong. He hadn't and still hasn't committed, and he is a hometown guy. If it was me, I'd go sit by the bench when the opportunity presented itself.

Burning bridges ahead of time is not a wise decision, no matter who you're talking about.

From what I've been told, not even the coaches will know Harrison's destination until he announces on Friday. Usually a recruit will call the schools that he isn't going to choose to thank them for recruiting him, but apparently coaches are calling on Thursday to give one last pitch to Harrison and he'll be using that time to thank each coach for recruiting him (without giving away his destination).

I've been following recruiting for quite a while and I've personally never seen a recruitment quite like this one where there is no definitive information coming from anywhere. Wherever Barnes goes, I'm quite certain he will be making the decision that is best for him.

Seems like UNC and Duke fans both have inside info that he is going to their school. :jimlad:

While I'd never boo him at his announcement like this, I don't understand all the people that say they'd support him no matter what.

The only thing I have in common with this kid is that I lived in the same town as him when he was between the ages of 9-13. I played on the same football team as Jeff Horner and had no problem at all booing him, so I certainly wouldn't feel horrible about not fully supporting HB if he went elsewhere (even though the more likely scenario is that I'll just stop caring all together and not even follow his career except maybe vaguely remembering he's from Iowa).
