New Iowa Coach

Alright, you just made me spit water on the computer screen. This is a library computer too, so..... I think I'm just going to get up and walk home now. :baffled5wh:

Congrats on post #1000!!!!

That and I'm almost afraid at how much fun the students will have with this guy when he comes to Hilton - should make for some good audio on the tv :laugh8kb:

Hansel: I guess you can dere-lick my balls cap-E-tan.
Derek Zoolander: I can Dere-lick my own balls, thank you very much.

"I can Todd Lickliter my own balls, thank you very much."

It is Lickliter, I bet he had to wait on Altman and went with his second choice. I don't think this is the splash they wanted. I am sure it will be spun hard.

HAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA Major positive Rep for a great post.

Iowa hired the "hot" name last time. It didn't work out well for them. I doubt anyone who has a basketball IQ over 2 worries about the perception of the hire to the rest of the basketball world.

Iowa needs to win and in a hurry. This guy has won and won a lot considering where he's coached.

Apples to Apples, I think his resume is more impressive than Mac's, yet many of us wet ourselves (me included) when we got him. Has Mac ever been to the Sweet 16? Twice?

No but they passed over Lowery and he has been to the NCAA 9 straight times (if I remember right) Not all as a head coach but still. Just give them a coach and we will do all the talking on the court

Interesting that many of you are comparing our hire of McDermott to this hire.

Objectively looking at it, they are very similar hires. Frankly, McDermott's resume' is probably a little weaker than Lickliter's. The two big advantages for McDermott are that he has more head coaching experience at the college level and that he knows the state of Iowa.

Shoot. Just when it's getting fun, Iowa's found a coach! Sounds like they'll announce a new guy on Tuesday.

I think this is going to be like our hiring of Chizik. Someone under the radar who's going to wow the Hawks(and perhaps us).

New Coach @ EIU? Not To Worry, if he doesn't win a national championship by his 3rd year the eiu fanbase will want the guy...FIRED!!

Bobber arent you glad you do NOT belong to the eiu squawk fanbase!!

I completely agree. As with McD, the only question about him is can he recruit to a Big 10 school in a Big 10 that is loaded with great coaches. It's going to be a challenge for the guy either way. But I do think it's a very solid hire.

I agree. THis is a pretty solid hire for Barta. It's not Wayne Morgan, which frankly this search was shaping up to be, and it's not Chizek. It sort of leaves you waiting. I don't think it energizes the fan base like Chizek but it'll give them a little hope. If they come and win a little early people will respond. They are already putting him out in front of the fans more than Alford would have been willing to do. It'll be interesting to see how it turns out, and that is the bottomline. It's more of a wait and see hire.

The guy can probably coach- but if recruits are like me- they will not even recognize his name. This is not a great get, ala Minnesota and Tubby, for the University of Iowa.

Greg McD coached in the MVC while at UNI though, which is a much better conference than the Horizon League which Butler plays in.

Lickliter won a conference championship in his first season at Butler, and that was their third straight, so he inherited a good team whereas McD did not at UNI. In '02 when he took over at UNI, the panthers hadn't had a winning season since '97.

Right. Making comparisons between the two at this point is a bit unfair. Both came from programs at different stages and came into programs at different stages.

All this guys got to do intially is have a little bit of a sense of humor and be able to charm the Iowa fans and he'll be a big improvement over what they had. I think they'll give him a little room before they hold the heat to his feet. They haven't been doing well and expectations have dropped somewhat. The savy fan also knows the cup board is empty.

Nice not to have a Tubby Smith 2 down there to overpower the air waves....
