New commit?

This is just a feeling, but the potential could be there for this to be a Ron Prince type class. I'm not saying we're going to go out and sign 25 JUCOs like Prince, but don't be surprised if it's a double-digit number.

Id prefer to see maybe 6-8 tops to round out the team the next couple years.

What exactly is the breakdown for projected starters this fall for juniors and seniors? Just a guess without looking, but I'd say roughly 45% juniors/40% seniors/15% underclassmen.

So far the 07 and 08 classes seem to still be intact for the most part(and many redshirted). I believe this would be the class(2010) to try and bring a good portion of jucos to strengthen up the team, for 2010 and 2011 without jeopardizing the future too much.

A decent amount of the 07and 08 classes(redshirted) we'll have till 2011/2012. This team has some wiggle room to work with.

Ya Bill Snyder had a way of dealing with that. Alot of those K-State guys majored in "Social Science" which wasn't even an offered major at K-State at that point. I'm not sure how he got away with it, but with recent findings, I think Mr. Snyder might be a little dirtier than originally thought.

And he was definitely thought to be plenty dirty. I didn't think he'd turn out dirtier than his reputation, but he may have pulled it off.

PR is probably using JUCO to get our defense some help. There isn't much depth how it is and there is some spots that could really use the help.

Ricky Howard will NOT be on defense. Just read his Q+A from the above link. He's a TE all the way.

Get some DEFENSE Rhoads!!!!

Yep, JUCO's never worked for Bill Synder either.

Snyder was the exception that proves the rule. Most coaches who rely too heavily on jucos are soon looking for other jobs. I'd hate to see us get any more than 5 or 6 jucos per class, and those just to fill immediate needs.

We've all seen that it can take jucos a whole year or more before they get acclimated to this level, if they ever do. Then we have a good player for only a year before they graduate. With Tuba, we had a good player for only about his last seven games when the light really went on for him.

Even Alvin Bowen took a full year before he finally started performing at a high level. Fortunately, he was a three-year juco.

Snyder learned from Hayden Fry who was a well known crook when it came to the rules and bending them. I've never thought Snyder was anything but...

I have no idea how crooked Fry was, but do remember his refusal to let a lot of that stuff go on was why he was let go or left SMU...

That assumes there is a rule about JUCO's that is different then high school players. Most coaches that rely on academic risks or marginal players are often looking for jobs, regardless if the players are JUCO or high school. You can recruit a lot of JUCO's if you are doing it correctly.

Exception That Proves The Rule: Used when a rule has been asserted, and someone points out the rule doesn't always work. The cliche rebuttal is that this is "the exception that proves the rule". Many people think that this cliche somehow allows you to ignore the exception, and continue using the rule.
In fact, the cliche originally did no such thing. There are two standard explanations for the original meaning.
The first is that the word "prove" meant test. That is why the military takes its equipment to a Proving Ground to test it. So, the cliche originally said that an exception tests a rule. That is, if you find an exception to a rule, the cliche is saying that the rule is being tested, and perhaps the rule will need to be discarded.
The second explanation is that the stating of an exception to a rule, proves that the rule exists. For example, suppose it was announced that "Over the holiday weekend, students do not need to be in the dorms by midnight". This announcement implies that normally students do have to be in by midnight.

the defense commits will come in time. this isnt a bad pickup. we need more pass catching TE's. cattlet isnt really a recieving threat, or bykowski. Herman knows how to use good pass catching TE's. see James Casey

Disagree completely that Catlett isn't a receiving threat. He is a really good receiving tight end actually, he has made many nice plays for us the past 2 years in the passing game. He has caught some deep posts down the field and he has real nice hands. Not quite the vertical threat that Franklin is but he is still one of the better receiving tight ends we have had in awhile.

He's also a real good, tough blocker leading the way out of the backfield. One of my favorite Clones.

Catlett won't be here and and Franklin will be a senior. A JUCO TE is just fine by me

So does this mean that we are no longer going after Chase Harper? I hope that is not the case. Plus we already have plenty of TE's unless they dont like what they see out of Bykowski and Hammerschmidt. I think a HS TE would fit a lot better.

I think it means that we no longer have a chance with him. He is one of the top JUCO targets in the country and is starting to get some big time offers

catlett is nice for little 5 yard routes and stuff, but in the spread you need guys who stretch the field. Franklin can do that, Catlett cant. Nothing personal against catlett. hes a really good blocking TE
