Market rate for electricity, or market rate for what charging stations charge? If they are just charging their cost for electricity, that's still a pretty good deal. If they're charging you for what a charging station would be, not a good deal.
Must use the EV Connect App and they will offer a discounted rate compared to public charging stations and some residential rates.
 
In fairness how many people actually need a Ram or F150 outside of twice a year?
That's why I went with the small SUV. Hate the soccer mom vibe, but its cheaper, better mileage, easier to park, et al. The two times a year I need a truck, I can borrow my son's (DIL has horses so they DO need a truck...)

Ive used my Lightning for "truck stuff" more times than i can count. We have an acreage so i am a special case im sure. I leased it a year ago, because as a Ford dealer employee, they basically gave it to me, but its been the best truck ive ever owned. great for hauling brush, have pulled multiple trailers with it as well. Not having to pay $4.25 a gallon for gas helps sway me as well

The ONLY thing i would change is the range

Funny thing about this app is it doesn't show all the available chargers. I found the same with ChargePoint app. My Apple Maps sometimes shows chargers available the others do not. Very strange.
 
I'm hauling crap in the bed of mind 2-3 times a month, rarely tow though. Mostly I have a truck because I don't really want an oily, smelly chainsaw inside the cabin with me.

Ive got one of those electric chainsaws. Thing just RIPS. I probably took down more than I needed to the first summer I had it. Been slowly replacing all of my yard tools with battery ones. So much easier and almost zero maint.

only issue with mine is the chain is like a 1-off specialty that I have to order online specifically from whatever small village middle school is producing them overseas. costs me more in shipping than anything. works pretty slick though

I'm done buying gas equipment around the house. Been waiting to get one of those Milwaukee saws on sale but they never seem to have a sale on them.

my trick is to buy the the cheapest one possible from Menards, and then watch it burn up in less than a year cause it's a piece of crap, get mad and then go buy another cheapest one (cause I already have the batteries smfh).
 
Company I work for had free on-site charging but got told last week that going forward you will have to pay market rate.

Yeah Iowa now taxes businesses that provide charging. So they probably have to charge you to recoup that. I had to set this all up for the company I work for. We had to turn off all our unmetered chargers. It's so stupid, but I guess the state wants more ethanol and less wind now.

It was probably the end of February where I had an AWD light come on in my lightning. It had around 40k miles at this point. By the time I called to have it serviced I noticed the heat was not working very well. Found out that there is a diverter valve that went bad that allowed the coolant to contaminate the fluid in the rear drive unit, so I got a new rear drive unit. That seems like a bad engineering choice where those 2 fluids can do that. It was under warranty still and it took about a week. I still do not regret buying my lightning, coming up on 2 years now.

In the engineers' defense, you have to provide some cooling to anything that transmits power and anytime you run a coolant loop there's a chance a seal fails leading to contamination. Head gasket failure puts coolant in the combustion chamber. Other failures put coolant in the oil pan. But you still need to cool the engine.

Sometimes things just break. Glad they got it fixed for you under warranty, and hopefully that's the last of it.

As the guy who's designing those circuits for Deere BEVs right now yes that scares the hell out of me where I have coolant to oil heat exchanger. They're pretty reliable but... a bad weld or a part that gets dropped somewhere along the line and cracks could cause a massive issue. I haven't seen that particular failure yet but there is a slight risk of that but it's not a unique to BEV risk though. On the flip side of that I've seen plenty of inverters let the magic smoke out because they weren't getting enough coolant for one reason or another.
