What % of your takehome pay are you spending on living expenses?

What kind of degree are people getting that's not from a college or university?
- The 5th degree
- degree'diants to choc chip cookies
- degrees celsius
- degree deodorant
- degrees of a triangle

honestly I can't think of things that AREN'T degrees.

'Just go to the trades' sounds awesome when you're 20. It's less awesome when you've got a mangled body at 55.
There are a lot more trades that arent physcially demanding these days. Sat through a community college graduation the other night and was delighted to see so many grads and so many jobs out there that I didnt know about. It was great to see.

I think trades are a fine option for many people but trad jobs have been steadily in decline for years now and almost like computer science, when so many people are being told it’s a safe path to go all you do is flood the market and slowly devalue to the job. Even if trades have some levers in place they can pull to help mitigate that it is a reality

Ummm how you getting a degree without attending a college even if it’s a community college? Pretty sure an apprenticeship doesn’t give you a degree, there are certifications of course but you used the word degree. So if I jumped to conclusions based on the words you used maybe slowdown and use the words you actually mean
You are now using words to get past the fact you jumped to conclusions, a degree, a piece of paper what ever, it does not matter. You are certified to do a job, you get the point. In my original post I never said a college degree. If you want to use the term certification, then have at it, but it doesn't change the fact you need something today to improve your life status, not just a high school education.

....nah. when you say "degree", a common person takes that to mean "college degree".

Certification, job training, apprenticeship, all that are separate things from a degree.

livin like roommates but legally married ... just seems super risky to me.

how do you do shared goals? how do you know how much to spend on vacation or a house or when to retire?

how to you know she's not blowing it all on hookers and pulltabs? (or vice versa)
You’re so close to getting it.

I would love to see real stats on that. From everything I’ve been told and seen in the field, this is not the case. I don’t have stats to back it up off hand, but if data centers keep going up, the outlook is high. If they have to continue completely revamp the infrastructure for renewable energy, the need is immense.

I’m using your words my man, maybe use the words you actually mean because a cert and a degree are two very different things.

But again I’m just using your words, if yo want me to just guess what you are thinking and make up things you didn’t post I’m more then happy to do so lol

Here’s some. The issue with data centers is that it’s not often locals that get those jobs as they want them done as cheaply as possible and sometimes it’s even worse if they are local for the aftershock once they are done

Just from the an electrician standpoint, there aren’t enough electricians to man the data centers in Des Moines and surrounding areas to pull from the local union hall, so of course they aren’t going to be local and have to bring in travelers from.

I know there are other trades, but electricians are both highly paid and highly sought after. Good electricians, even more so.

If I’m misunderstanding what you are saying, I apologize

My words did not include a college degree, only a degree, you were the one that brought up college. Maybe you should read what I stated before jumping to conclusions.

I would not consider my apprenticeship as getting a degree. Just for the record. But I get what you’re saying. It’s semantics.

I will agree it is important to try to better yourself in your career, whether trainings, certificates, etc…make yourself indispensable to your field and you will always be able to find work.

Tell me outside of college/university where do you get a degree from…I’ll wait to be educated
I would say going through an apprenticeship is a degree would you not? You are being schooled how to do a job, and after the end of it, you get a certification. You are way too hung up on the word degree, and you are educated and should know better.

That was my point and I would say that an apprenticeship is a degree, you are being trained in a specific field to do a job, how is that any different from going to college to get a degree of some sort? The whole point is to open doors for you that would otherwise be closed without the training. Our MSU friend wants to talk in semantics and nothing more.

I wouldn’t because it isn’t a degree. In many ways it can be better than a degree because most degrees don’t come with schooling on how to do a job. That’s where there is a big difference.

Again using your words and the amount of people in my generation who were told just to get any kind of degree as you posed and suffered for it is quite high, thus my initial post
