**** Official 2026 MBB Spring Transfer Portal Thread ****

The key with almost any player is that they have to have threats around them that make the opponent pay for being hyper-focused on stopping them. The surrounding cast was able to do that in most games this year, but sometimes they couldn't. Even in the games that they couldn't, Milan's presence gave them the opportunity to, they just weren't able to take advantage of it.

Sheesh the Milan bashing on Two Guys was out of control. The way they were talking about him makes me think he's gone. You'd have thought Milan averaged 8 points and only made wide open threes all season. He averaged 17 points per game! He was the best shooter in the country! Really disappointed in the way he was discussed. He deserves way more respect. We had our Cyclone voice questioning his toughness! Unreal.
I felt it was really accurate. He is not a main guy as he can't create his own shot. If hes the main guy, each team face guards him and hes done. I think he won't have a better year next year(could but unlikely) and goes to the nba this year.

The one thing TJ does know is what he has. He knew Jefferson was going to be a major piece for this year. When he needed a raise he got one. Mason Williams was likely told to look elsewhere.

I guarantee TJ knows every scenario involving Milan, I’m guessing everything possible has been discussed between TJ and Milan. I’m guessing their relationship is very good and TJ won’t be caught off guard. I guess I have faith in that.

Yes I used the word guess many times to make the point that it is only guessing right now.

Fair. But then do we pay Milan even more or upgrade the others? Right now we have two guards that are true players. Buchanan/Pleta(so far) just eat up minutes in the middle and get some rebounds. That's it. No one is worried anyone on the current team will hurt them if they shut Milan down.

I’m still baffled by Mason Williams, I was so excited to see him play but it’s sounding like this was TJ telling him to move on? Did he just not really recover from his injury or something. I trust TJ but man Williams was a guard I was pumped to see in a cyclone uniform.

Now with that said, I’m pretty excited about all these recruits on campus this weekend minus maybe Manning? He didn’t look great at Kstate but he also was playing under Tang so who knows.

I agree with this. My hope is that Batemon and Toure both take a step and provide some of the scoring we are losing between Tamin and JJeff. The question becomes who’s our guy that can just go get a bucket when we need one. And to your point, if Milan gets to a spot where he’s out of our price range, then who’s going to be our guy that can get us 17+ ppg when it’s all said and done.

Why can't Iowa State compete for a national title and pay Momcilovic?

We were a top 5ish team all year long and a 2 seed in the NCAA tournament. If Momcilovic comes back, we return 5 of the 8 rotational pieces. Land two immediate impact transfers and hope 1-2 of the freshman can play at this level there is no reason to think we arent a preseason top 10 team.

If terms of financials, we can pay Milan!
We can pay Milan, but not what is being rumored he's being offered ($3.5-5). I love Milan, don't get me wrong, but he's more of a luxury than a necessity. He's pretty one dimensional and for $3.5-5, we could get 2 guys who are a little more versatile.

I'm not saying we can't compete for a national title, but after losing what we lost and replacing those pieces? That's going to be a tall task the very next year, and I think Milan knows that.

The bucket getter will be that Johnson kid. He shot 5 more free throws this year than Jefferson did. Twice as many as Tamin did. He's one of those little guards that pisses you off cause you can't figure out how someone that size scores so much. But when he goes 10 for 10 at the line you're like, oh, that's how he scored 20pts tonight.

If Milan wants to come back we pay him.
But like they were saying on Two Guys - he's going through the NBA process which bleeds out past the end of the open portal window. So we could be reserving a spot/money for him to return, then if he decides to stay in the draft, we're SOL like we were with AJ Green. Or, we could fill his spot with 1-2 dogs and unfortunately wouldn't have a spot for him anymore because we need to have a solidified roster and then he could get NBA feedback to work on XYZ, and may make as much/more? going to a...UConn for a year, than he would where he'd get drafted.

In saying this, someone like Johnson (who's aggressive to the cup) would free up shots for someone like Milan. So that could be enticing for Milan to return. Just a difficult spot for everyone to figure out the right thing to do.

I mean if we are going to pay him 3, why not pay him 3.5. That's the way I look at it.

Johnson would not be a Milan replacement, espically with Toure and the Bradley guard visiting. Everyone is complaining about size, Johnson is short- That's two short guys on the floor at the same time will be tough in the Big 12.

Surprising given the rumored paycheck Iowa was giving him.

It all is how you want to allocate resources in this new era. He isn’t consistent enough for what he’s getting, so they are looking to add different pieces to their roster that might be more consistent
