Knowing how TJ is I would guess he always has a list of potential candidates and has already talked with his top choices.

Yep, and TJ undoubtedly got better from being around those guys and has had plenty of time to digest their coaching methods. I was hoping Green stayed, but we should be a top destination for great assistants.
I love TJ and think he's a great coach. However, I've always viewed him as a CEO/motivator and that his assistants were running the show during the game. He goes to his assistants A LOT and in a lot of big situations TJ wasn't even leading the huddles during time outs. I've always wondered how much of the X's and O's was truly him and I guess we will soon see. Blount and Green were the two guys I saw him turn to most frequently and they're now both gone in the same offseason.
That said, I have complete confidence that if he is as good of a CEO as I believe him to be, he will make more great hires.

Guess we're gonna find out how bad Tamin's body really is.... looks like an excellent time to hire the Floor General that was the career steals guy as a defensive specialist coach. I'm sure he could be a great recruiter too. Who knows Ames better? Also an extra practice body.
Why would you want to move back home to be closer to your wife? Makes no sense to me. 
Otzelberger’s defenses at South Dakota St. and UNLV were not close to what Iowa State’s have been. Green seems to be the one most responsible.
This is what TJ wants as well...he wants those guys to get the same opportunities he had! Great for both of them!
And, unlike players, coaches don't have a 4 year window to make their money. Much easier to sell experience.
Great opportunity for Green. Makes a ton of sense for him to go back to Cedar Falls.
We will miss Kyle green and wishing him the best at UNI there are many other defensive specialists out there and tj knows where they are I have no doubts that we will get a winner to replace green

JJeff's injury was clearly on TJ for not pulling the starters in that Tennessee State blowout. ISU won that game by almost 35!I thought Jefferson's injury was caused by playing too many minutes against Grambling in the noncon!
Would probably need to start out as graduate assistant, but love that idea. Wonder if Diane Garrett is gonna take on bigger role now.

He knows the defense (Jacobson system) and can coach the bigs. If our bigs are 1/2-2/3 the player he was, we'll see no drop off
