**** Official 2026 MBB Spring Transfer Portal Thread ****

In a perfect world we go get Carson from NDSU, Rancik from Colorado and go find a guy that should be playing DE instead of basketball to provide some muscle as a backup 4. In this perfect world Milan also returns.
Hang on, im still processing the fact that in your perfect world Rancik is one of the best options

I’m getting the feeling that Bill is going to stay as long as he damn well feels like it.

I don't see the issue with Rancik. I'm not sure he's a top tier transfer or anything, but a 6'11" forward with decent shooting splits that shoots 86 percent from the line would be a very solid piece.

If you look at the teams having success right now, alot of them are playing two bigs. Illinois has all their big Euros. Michigan starts Morez Johnson, Mara and Lendeborg. Arizona is very front-court dominate with Peat, Krivas and Awaka. I could totally see a world where we'd be able to play 2 of the 3 of Rancik, Pleta and Blake at any given time.

Another thing to consider with the "bigs" is how well can they play the defense in TJ's scheme. They have to be able to communicate and rotate quickly. An agile "big" would be preferred for TJ's defensive scheme

Small ball means you need to be hot from 3 for 6 games in a row. Big boy basketball means even if you miss, you still get the offensive rebound and dunk or draw a foul.

Solid player but where would he fit in? With Toure, Batemon, Carson, Wiggins, and Gray, we only played 4 guards this year (with Jefferson playing a Point Forward for a lot of the time), at least one of the two freshman will play - is Toure the starting or backup PG? Or, is he kind of an off the ball type guard again? (which is kind of what i would prefer). I don't know if Carson is a PG or SG, so if he's a PG, would he be the starter?

Maybe if Mason Williams didn't get hurt he could have played this year and we could have seen a 5 man rotation? I would have to assume if Carson is coming here, we're probably set on guards and our portal focus will be getting a couple bigs, IMO. Especially if Mommy returns
If Iowa State's NIL funds are in much better shape for 2026/27 (something I didn't expect). Then have to believe any big money spent on a portal add would be stud power forward. Need to replace Jefferson and we saw that Iowa State's kryptonite last season was teams that had long, athletic post players.

Familiar name here

Yes, please. A guard from MN, that transferred from Buffalo, and wears #5? Match made in heaven.

Pursued him pretty heavily out of HS I believe. Then focus switched to Dwayne Pierce..and we saw how that worked out. Would love to see him in the TJ system.

Really though him or Carson would be great adds. We do have several guards, but they're all young at this point. Wouldn't mind adding some experience to that group. Not to mention both guys shoot over 80% from the line.

PRAYING Otz decides to target some good FT shooters in the portal. At this point in his tenure I think it's fair to call bad free throw shooting a trend. If they're not going to improve in the offseason or during the season, the only way to boost the team numbers is to bring in guys that have already proven they can knock them down.

IIRC, the concern was we weren't sure if he wanted to play football or basketball in college.

Love to know what happened to Pierce? My son played against him in high school. My guess is he wasn't the right cultural fit but I know nothing on that front and would love to know more.

He played at North Carolina A&T this year

If were looking at mid tier PFs from CU lets gook at Bangot Dak then. I'd take a 6'6" guy like D Royal out of OSU

Idk I still would, he is 6’10 or something and shoots the ball relatively well. Might be a defensive liability but TJ has proven he can teach great defense.

He's a logical take if Momcilovic doesn't come back, although he seems more of a true stretch 4 since he had decent rebound numbers. That would free up TJ to go after more of a traditional athletic wing.

But not sure with our defense TJ could play Momcilovic and Rancik together much. I was surprised that Rancik on hit 29 percent of this 3's this past season. In the few CU games I watched, he seemed to make a higher percent.
