UNLV's top recruit Zaon Collins involved in DUI fatality

Weed stays in your system for a long time. Especially if you use it regularly. Probably not hard to make a scientific case that those levels could be present in the blood stream without a person being impaired at the time they were driving.

This has been the basis for my opposition to legalization of marijuana. We barely have a grasp on what constitutes alcohol induced impairment for driving, and it's abundantly clear we have NO grasp on it for marijuana induced impairment.

I don't agree with this, but thats a debate for another thread and forum.

Sounds like with initial indictment being dismissed they may be laying a case for complete dismissal? Best attorneys money can buy? If the kid is a 4 star recruit and driving a late model Challenger, there is money involved.......

Most likely, but I wonder who is behind the money. UNLV and TJ moved on shortly after the accident, correct?

Is there going to be no accountability here? How is being high vs drunk really matter? And what does it matter if he wasn't high at the time (weed stays in systen a long time)? He was still going 88 in a 35 and killed someone.

The prosecutor is still pursuing the charges, they just dismissed the grand jury. But given that a grand jury didn't find enough evidence to charge a DUI, I don't that it is going anywhere. But they still have reckless driving.

This debate made me curious about legal TCH levels and Google took me to this site...

It shows the legalization status and driving laws for every state. The results are all over the board. Of course in states where it is illegal to possess marijuana there is generally a zero tolerance for levels. The thing I find odd is that some states - like California - it is legal for all uses but they have no set limit for impaired driving. Apparently you can drive around like you are Cheech and Chong and not be charged.

Zaon Collins tested at 3 ng per se. I didn't look at every state but here are the limits for some of the well known states that have legalized it for recreational use.

Nevada - 2 ng per se
Oregon - no limit
Washington - 5 ng per se
California - no limit
Colorado- 5 - ng per se - Edit: permissible interference (don't know what that means)
DC - no limit

Edit : here are the other states with limits.

Illinois - 5 ng per se
Montana - 5 ng per se (Starting in October)
Ohio - 2 ng per se but recreational use is illegal.

I don't think you need a legal limit to charge someone with DUI. You can get charged for dui while driving medicated and I doubt they have legal limits for every possible drug on the books.

Explain how this HS recruit who made a terrible mistake threatens the career of TJ. Did TJ buy the Pot and give it to him?

Are you familiar with the background of Isheem Young, a member of our Iowa State Football team? Sometimes kids mess up.

Also the incident happened after he committed to UNLV. No idea if there were red-flags with him prior to this, but its pretty silly to crap on TJ for this.

It may not directly threaten his career, but assuming this kid never plays for UNLV after this means he can't help TJ win.

Believe this is true for alcohol as well. You can blow below 0.08, but if the officer feels you are impaired you can still be charged. Or maybe I'm thinking for drunk in public offenses?

Could be true but I bet you would have a hard time making the charges stick in court if they are under the legal limit.

Have not read any of this but....if TJ is pulling top 50 talent to UNLV sign me up for the guy. It's not like it's TJ's fault the kid got stoned and hit somebody.

Apparently he was ticketed a couple of years ago for high speed in a low speed zone. Somebody should have taken his car away then.
But there's no way TJ would have known that.
