Never thought to try that. Def. way faster in safe mode. Must be some sort of application slowing me down then huh? I only have a couple programs installed.... AVG free virus protection, firefox, picasa, AOL instant messenger, Windows MP, and Quicktime...
So - is the slowdown happening at boot time (with the windows logo) or when the machine is starting apps?
Safe mode basically runs the machine with a minimal set of programs running (and prevents most bad apps from running as well) - so it should be snappy in that mode.
Malwarebytes.org <-- install and run this to see if there is anything out there. Do it in safe mode if you can.
It's starting in boot time. It is still a little slow at starting apps, but not too bad. It then seems to work fine other than playing video or audio.
And it's "choppy"? How does everything else work - do windows open in a snappy manner, or are they slow too?
When the video or audio is choppy, do you notice a lot of hard drive activity?
Windows are snappy, download time is normal, typing is normal.... just video and audio mainly after the slow boot up. I don't notice a ton of hard drive activity... i mean it doesn't get any louder and the "activity" light really doesn't blink much more...
Have you updated audio or video (or both) drivers recently (like before the issue started)?

Thanks that helped to see, but nothing still seems to be out of the ordinary. How do I go about formatting? and do I need to pay for windows 7rc1 or whatever the hell it is?
If it works fine in safe mode that just means something on startup is taking up too much memory.

whenever you go to install a version of windows, itll give you the option of which hd to install on. from there you can tell it to format the drive.
win7rc1 doesnt officially release for another week or so... its out on all the torrent\newsgroup sites though search windows7 build 7100. full disclosure, its not a final release, and there may be bugs, but i've been using various betas on my systems for a few months with no issues.
