For those wondering why I detest the B1G so much, do you not feel the vice grip of Iowa, Illinois, Purdue around Iowa State's neck? Sheesh, Better for programs far away to win, than teams in our own back yard in the B1G!

Yes, because grown men, waxing poetic, and/or spouting vitriol all night because they didn’t want a certain team or conference to win is definitely normal behavior.

 Did you mention self-importance? In no way have I positioned myself as more important or my thoughts more important than anyone else on here. They may be contrary, they may be things you didn’t want to hear, but in no way where they self-important. Just different…

self-important
/ˌselfəmˈpôrtnt/
Self-important describes
someone who acts with an exaggerated sense of their own value or importance, usually in a pompous, arrogant, or condescending manner. It often implies a disapproving attitude towards people who are arrogant or overconfident.
I think you have said some reasonable stuff, but any more said at this point might stir the pot too much.

I actually think Iowa can beat Illinois. They only beat Iowa by 6 earlier in the year. Hawks will be out for some sort of revenge.

What?!?! is this a serious comment? I have spent 20 years listening to dumb ass, Iowa fans, telling me Mark Mangino, Tim Brewster, fat Charlie… Don’t remember his last name otherwise I wouldn’t be so crude, whoever the guy from Florida was that coached Illinois for a while, Matt Campbell, coach & team after coach & team are going to run Kirk Ferentz out of Iowa and make Iowa irrelevant…didn’t happen.

Iowa State has one of the best coaches in college basketball. In fact they have one of the 10 best coaches in college basketball and he’s from Iowa and he isn’t going anywhere. He has an incredible eye for talent, and his system wins with whatever players he plugs into it.

Those teams being good will in no way shape or form affect Iowa State being good No more than Duke, North Carolina, UM, MSU, Ohio St, Illinois, etc affect each other… either you consistently put together good teams or you don’t. I mean, honestly it’s basketball. We’re not talking about fielding an 100 person football team and quite frankly Im not convinced that’s a real thing… at no point in the history of Iowa and Iowa Iowa State have both teams fielded such successful football teams for such an extended period of time . They don’t even regularly go after the same players it doesn’t seem to me.

I've seen two trains of thought on this board regarding our Cyclones and Iowa both being in the top tier of college football. One is, "I'm glad we're not like Nebraska where we are the only "huge" team in state." The other is, "Both fan bases want the other school's team to drop to the level of UNI." I personally think a Cy-Hawk game that is regularly competitive to be a good watch.

I dunno.

With any luck ISU will get to feel Illinois apply the same vise to their neck that Iowa and Purdue did earlier in the season.

I don’t know if I’d go as far as saying Hoiberg shouldn’t be playing P4 basketball, but i sure don’t think he should be playing 37 minutes in a sweet 16 game.

Frankly, the glorifying of the guys that make plays without scoring has gone too far. I’m all for pointing out that stuff but watching a game called by Bilas is unbearable. Every time there’s a bucket we hear for 3 minutes about how great that screen that I’ve seen rec league guys set 10,000 times was.

You have to have good PG play typically. The Hoiberg thing is a fun story. But if he’s essentially your PG and leading your team in mins, you probably aren’t going to go very far. Good defender, but this isn’t 1998. Really hard to win with a guard that’s not very good offensively.
I think you're being too hard on him relative to his role on this team. Mast has typically been a big part of the reason they win or lose this year. Same as today. He and Buyuktuncel went a combined 0/11 from 3 and 5/22.

Being that Illinois seems focused on Eastern Europe for recruiting, I don't. We were competing with Iowa, for in-state guys mostly, well before their run in the Tourney. And Purdue's been good for quite a few years. Glad they got Cluff, Buchanan's a better fit for our system.

With the portal now, there are plenty of guys available to go around. We'll be fine regardless of what those teams do/accomplish.

If Illinois plays D like they did tonight, it probably won't be that close. That was the difference in the Houston game. Illinois' D has been suspect through much of the conference slate, but they're really cranking it up in the Tourney.

I get the point if we were a middling program. We are not. TJ will get his regardless.

Keep in mind the two best teams in the Big 12 are still alive. That is all that matters.

I’d take Illinois by 10+, those were two very different games tonight. Great run for a team with that talent level, but Iowa’s Cinderella run is on its last gasp.

Iowa winning by 4 coming up.

Credit to Iowa but my thinking that college basketball was bsck with such a loaded top end has kind of dissolved.

I didn't think Illinois or Purdue were really that good but here they are.
