Sampson retirement?

I think that depends on whether Houston will promote his son to the head coach position. He may do what Pearl did and wait long enough that Houston has no choice. But that puts his son behind the 8 ball immediately. With the rebuild that’ll be coming, I think now is as good a time as any as long as the administration understands that there will be a step down and don’t overreact.

He made that program. He can probably pick his replacement. I'm not sure I think Houston can stay at the level they have been without him.

Why are you here?

I guess to ask the tough questions? You’ll note at no time have I disparaged Iowa State or the big 12… I like them as a conference in football and basketball both and have since they were the big 8.

At no time have I tried to suggest Iowa has a better team than pretty much anyone or the Big Ten is an obviously better conference, because they aren’t. They are good, so is the Big 12 and although I do not like the SEC at all, they also have played very good basketball over the last couple years…

Im into Truth, and reality and unbiased commentary. I’m assuming if some fans get their way, I’m going to get thrown out. But in no way have I been a classic “Iowa Homer“ or rival fan… I’ve said things as I see them. And hate me all you want. I generally haven’t said anything that is way out of line or “Troll like“.

Does that really make fans mad in 2026?! I have a theory… It really should be “big brother“ you know the big brother that was pretty talented. Pretty well liked but his brother that’s three years younger is just a little taller a little bigger a little faster a little better looking and overshadowed him.

;) It’s never really seemed like an effective slam to me… And let’s be honest when we’re jabbing at our rivals I mean, we want to be witty and...
Mods...Ban this person. He's the definition of insufferable Hawkeye we've been discussing.

Ah yes, because what we definitely all needed was an insufferable hawk fan to "ask tough questions" and keep us in line. What a wild sense of self-importance you have.

Man, I can't for the life of me think I'd be spending my night spamming hundreds of comments on an opposing team's message board on the same night my team achieved its best tournament performance in decades.

That's some ******* weirdo behavior.

Well whether I’m here or not, I completely expect the Iowa State game to look very much like the Arizona, Arkansas game tonight.

I’d say good luck but I don’t anticipate TJ and his crew needing it. I am beginning to suspect that possibly the SEC is a little bit overrated.

I spent many years ******** and moaning about the SEC in football and my uncle, again an Iowa State grad, and someone else who doesn’t like the SEC called me out on it… That’s been about 10 years and it kind of changed my line of thinking.

Just because I didn’t want them to be good, didn’t make it true. I generally don’t wander around calling anything overrated anymore.

Yes, because grown men, waxing poetic, and/or spouting vitriol all night because they didn’t want a certain team or conference to win is definitely normal behavior.

 Did you mention self-importance? In no way have I positioned myself as more important or my thoughts more important than anyone else on here. They may be contrary, they may be things you didn’t want to hear, but in no way where they self-important. Just different…

self-important
/ˌselfəmˈpôrtnt/
Self-important describes
someone who acts with an exaggerated sense of their own value or importance, usually in a pompous, arrogant, or condescending manner. It often implies a disapproving attitude towards people who are arrogant or overconfident.
