Bill Fennelly

yeah.. none of that is impressive. we've been to the elite 8 twice in his 31 (!!!) years. Jerome Tang also took Kansas State to the elite 8 and k state did the right thing with him. We have 1(!!!) sweet 16, in the last 16 years. we've been eliminated 3 times in the last 4 years, in the first round including back to back years, with one of the most talented rosters Bill has ever had. We got as high as AP #8 last year - lost in the first round. got as high as AP #10 this year, lost in the first round. Got as high as AP #5 four years ago, lost in the first round. He was maybe once an adequate coach - in 99, 2000, 2001 - but he's been AWFUL for the last 10+ years. It's time for Bill to go.
Man, after reading that, can’t really argue that it’s been pretty mediocre for 15 years. How much mileage can you get from the “300 fans in 1996” argument? It’s been 30 years!

Does Bill retire abruptly mid season to force JP’s hand to hire someone on staff?

I don't see Bill going out that way and second if he quit midseason, you just name an interim to finish out the season and do your coaching search after the season is over and qualified candidates are available to talk.

Since 2010 we've basically been Iowa basketball under Fran McCaffery.

Not exactly a fair comparison but I get where you are going with it. Fran never took Iowa to a Sweet 16. If you include 2010 ISU WBB has been to 2 Sweet 16's.

I don't disagree that the results have been lackluster lately and the program is at a point where it needs a reset. However, as long as Audi and AJ stay (I am hoping there aren't too many more leaving especially keeping Addy and Jada would be important) you give Bill this last season as a farewell and hit the reset button when we were already going to be do that with the roster regardless with all the juniors we had this season.

I think some may be going a bit off the deep end with where the WBB has been at over the past 10 years. Especially now in the NIL area there is an even bigger gap between the top 8 or so programs in the country to the teams in the 15-25ish range. The schools that spend a lot of NIL money are the same teams that were already competing for national titles over the past decade or so. ISU is never going to compete in that group as we will never be able to commit that kind of NIL money. You are seeing lately in the men's game what happens when blueblood schools have to compete with other programs that can compete with them in NIL. The playing field is more even in the men's game currently but pretty much the opposite has happened in the women's game as the gap seems to be growing not shrinking. Bottom line would you rather ISU use it's already limited NIL funds to compete more in WBB or use that to stay competitive while not using that towards FB and MBB? It sucks but that is just reality at this point.

May as well rip the Band-Aid off now and start to rebuild... Bill will be leaving sometime sooner rather than later anyway.

(No, I'm not trying to be a Bill hater or discredit his accomplishments)

So are the portal announcements fake news?

No, but they sure don't look like anything out of the ordinary anywhere.

I have a request. Let’s try something different recruiting wise? Maybe like recruit athletic players and a couple shooters. Versus an entire roster of the same thing.

There's a bad rumor out there that I have doubts about, but it is NOT good (re: departures).
I see Addy is out. Are we talking more starters or just the reserves already announced?
