***2026-27 Mens College Basketball Thread***

Some things need to be acknowledged about WI:

-they haven't played the slow methodical offense and strong defensive game for a decade or more.

-their defense is low ranked this season, but anyone can play defense in a one game scenario.

-they're hot or cold but imo not soft like the ideal '22 match up.

-not a terrible matchup but if they're hitting from 3 they can beat really good teams, and have.
So TTU lite?

Oh yes, I’m very familiar with Wisconsin. I know it’s not like the Bennett/Ryan teams.

Wisconsin has good post play, which in of itself isn’t a killer for us, but as you mention, they can hit the three too. They have shown the capability to beat elite teams: Michigan at Michigan, Illinois at Illinois, and blew out Michigan State.

It’s not that I don’t think we can beat them. I’m saying that’s a brutal 6-seed versus a Louisville or a Tennessee for instance. A team like Wisconsin would make more sense as a S16 opponent versus a R32.

Fwiw my post was more for anyone.

Occasionally someone posts about how surprised they are to see WI score more than 60 with their 'style of play' which means they really haven't watched much if at all.

Going off Bracket Matrix, it seems like Saint Louis is already in. Would love to see them lose to clear some of these trash teams (Auburn, Texas, ect). off the weak bubble.
If VCU reaches A10 title game, it could secure one of final at-large slots even with a loss, so there is slim chance A10 gets 3, SLU, VCU and auto-bid. That would purge remainder of SEC/Big Ten.

Then there's MWC, USU is a lock, I don't know if SDSU or UNM can get at-large, but either (along w/ Nevada) is alive for automatic.

I also have never understood how the eye test in football is a thing but doesnt seem to apply in basketball for seeding. The way we are rolling teams at the moment imo should have a larger impact then it does.

Oh come on - you know what the “eye test” is really about: it’s a tool decision-makers use at whim to put “desirable teams” in “desirable places”. If stats are indistinguishable or favor an “undesirable” team, the eye test allows them to put the more desirable team in a better position than the less desirable team. But if the more desirable team has better metrics but a less desirable team is playing better… “nope - can’t use the eye test - the metrics are clear”.

I know the committee has said these tourneys don't have any weight on their seeding, but I personally think there are a few teams on high seed lines where results might still make a difference.

We are MASSIVE Badger fans today.

Probably should be big Boiler fans as well but maybe not as Nebbie is still likely behind Purdue on seeding?

MASSIVE Bruin fans today.
I don't think they've ever said they have no weight on their seeding, just that they don't have any more weight than any other game.

They've also already lost that game too.

Michigan's sitting there with 2 losses and close calls against some marginal/bad teams.
When Michigan beats Wiscy by 2 for the B1G Title, all we are going to hear is that Iowa was only 10 pts away from winning the B1G.
