AND NOBODY REMEMBERS.....

Yes. The too short PG with no jump shot who some were losing their **** over like it was the death knell for ISU hoops.

And all the while we had a much better player in Lipsey waiting in the wings. Perhaps the coaches were aware of this and didn't want to waste money on a totally overrated player like Hunter? He was always a great fit for Beard. Similar character.
They went out and got Williams from Temple who expected to be the PG but got hurt. I don’t think even the coaches expected Tamin to start.

Maybe, maybe not. But Tamin certainly held his own as a freshman.

I’ve never heard anything bad about Hunter’s character.

The upper crust on this website who had been pining for TJ to be coach since 2010 couldn't believe someone had the audacity to transfer from ISU under his watch. Remember, this was before NIL.

So they shoveled a bunch of BS about him on this website and all of a sudden instead of being the point guard who honored his commitment even though coach who recruited had been fired and helped TJ have a very successful first year, he was traitorous loser.

The Bill Snyder thing.

Can you imagine ISU football being the complete polar opposite program in the 1990s from what was the worst decade in ISU history by a long shot?
I”ll see your Snyder and raise you a Krzyzewski. Imagine what / where our MBB would be had Knight not talked him out of it.

Tyrese Hunter played his absolute ass off for Iowa State. He was Big 12 freshman of the year (and deserved so), and single handily won us an NCAA tournament. He went balls out on defense and bought into TJ's culture from day 1. He was a 4 star recruit and absolutely lived up to every ounce of it, and was factually a key reason for us winning 24 games. He was as good of a defender as a freshman as we have ever had (that includes Toure, who Hunter was objectively better as a freshman than). And Tyrese did not have a senior leader mentor (like Monte, like Toure, etc.). He had to learn on the fly.

The kid didn't complain. He lost both his parents young and had a tough upbringing, and got offered a bag when we weren't prepared AT ALL for NIL. I don't blame him 1 freaking bit.

It is beyond weird, petty, etc. for Cyclone fans to sh*t on him. No one has to love him forever but he did everything anyone could have asked for a freshman, including 110% effort. TJ would take a Hunter in every class, with that level of athletism and toughness.
Well done, Let’s make this the last post about him ever.

NIL was new but absolutely in full effect when Hunter transferred to Texas. Otherwise, you exaggerate the extent of the general reaction here a little but there were definitely a few of those. It was all very stupid for sure.

One of my favorite games ever attended was the following season after he transferred out and came back to town to play with the Longhorns. I've never personally been to a louder and more piss and vinegar filled Hilton than that Saturday afternoon.

I drove down to Austin the last yr Tx was in conference, pretty sure he was still there it was fun to beat them in their new arena (really nice but small, amazing concessions at ok prices)

I remember being bummed because there was going to be roster uncertainty/turnover even if he had stayed. I was a bit annoyed he didn't make some kind of formal announcement (at least not immediately) and it was early enough in NIL, I didn't think primarily of seeking $, I wondered if there was some kind of internal rift.

By the time of his return to Hilton the next season, I was pretty much past it, team was doing fairly well without him.

The first thing I recall seeing on CF board was someone posted that Hunter "didn't come back on the team bus" from Chicago after the regional loss. I wasn't sure if that was confirmed or just a rumor.

No offense but you probably don’t want to go digging into the history of some of our prior coaches.
Beyond Mac? Never heard of any others being involved in potential spousal abuse, but I'm no insider.
