*** Official #16 Texas Tech vs #4 IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

Yup, tj has even said this earlier in the year, Iowa state is very predictable. It's by choice. It's maybe like Iowa football, you know exactly what you are going to get with zero variation. Most teams can't beat it, especially at Hilton. But good teams, especially away from Hilton, especially if you have a week to prepare, like for a sweet 16 game, it's going to be an uphill climb.
We beat Purdue at Purdue by 30 ******* points. This meltdown after one loss is insane. We don't have a lot of great individual defenders. Especially on the front line. Help defense, doubling, and trapping is how we win.

Not when your offense depends on turnovers and we all know it is .. You have to hope they stop making 25+ foot 3's..

Now I do wish Otz calls a TO before Tech goes on a 20-3 run... That was just a head scratcher
We knew they take half of their shots as threes.

We knew our defense lets teams take half of their shots from three.

You don’t get beat by a team’s strength.

They are a great 3 point shooting team. Period. and they do it with volume.

It was the single cause of the loss.

Hope they miss isn’t a strategy

Disagree on part of this. Houston and KU are plenty athletic and spread us out and we beat both of them. But it does drive me insane that we don't switch out of it when it's not working. It is TJs biggest flaw.

I don't think Houston and KU have the athletesism that BYU and TT have.

Perhaps it's a problem when you can't run a competent halfcourt offense...if the only way our team can actually look good offensively is by turning teams over, that's not a very good recipe for success.

We have to be able to scheme up plays that get our best shooters open. We did have a few open looks today but they weren't falling.

We would have lost by 20 playing straight up man to man and not helping with penetration today. We're 17-11 right now and not 24-5 playing that way for the season.

Like who? BYU and TT have been the most athletic teams we've played. Houston is built similar to us.
We have big wins. You you don't change from what got you here based on a few losses on the road. They happen. 24-5. You guys are totally overreacting. Top 10 next week again. Tech got hot and we could have obviously closed out on the shooters better today. Way more of an execution problem than scheme or style today. And if athleticism is an issue the last thing you want is guys defending more athletic guys without help. The defense will be fine. I'm way more concerned about offense by a longshot.

I'm not saying to completely overhaul, but good coaches adjust. If you know your weakness is 3 point defense you adjust when you are playing against one of the best 3 point shooting teams. You don't roll out the same shot and HOPE they have an off shooting night.

Tech played well. In order to beat us you have to make a lot of extra passes. Most of the time that's going to be to your own detriment against us. I don't know I would have made any adjustments. Their passing was as stellar as their shooting. Sometimes there's not much you can do. Hitting shots at the other end was the solution and we didn't do that

They shot 75% from 2. Don't care how they made them it was still 75%

As a team Tech shot 10% over their season average from 3.
If they move back to the mean on 3 point shooting, believe the score would be 73-73

I am not sure what they could have done different. If they were 8+ in points on turnovers you still have to do what you do best. Maybe effort, there were some soft close outs

We shouldn't meltdown over ONE loss at home but at the same time to act like we have been a good road team because we beat ONE good team on the road isn't accurate either. ISU beat the 4 worst teams in the conference on the road. Every team with a pulse has beat us on the road fairly easily. Lucky we played middle of the pack teams like West Virginia, Arizona State, and UCF at home because not sure we are winning those games if they aren't at Hilton.

Our schedule looks similar to the other top teams in the country. I don't know what you realistically thought the team would be at this point. We don't have to play anyone on the road in the postseason either.

It's not just A team.....pretty much every loss (which isn't a ton to be fair) is a direct result of leaving shooters wide open BECAUSE of the style of defense we play. Most times, it's effective, but when it's not, it's REALLY not.

Implementing that game plan against the best 3 point team is the league was frustrating. They hit some tough shots but WAY too many were wide open.

I’m not sure what this staff expected. Surely they weren’t crossing their fingers that they had a bad shooting day…

Anderson's ball handling was freaky great.
We have no one Remotely similar in this category.
Ps.They've beaten Duke, Arizona and Houston. This is a great team. Period.

ISU also doesn't get to play anyone at Hilton in the post season.

You expect when they have to make the extra pass for them to get sloppy with them because that's what happens 90% of the time. Tech played a perfect game really. We could play them tomorrow and they wouldn't do what they did today

I think it’s also fair to question the slow leaking we’ve done again towards the end of the year. Two years in a row where we were the #2 team in the country and likely won’t finish in the top 4 in the conference.

This was also the 5th game we’ve lost as favorites and 3 of those were multi-possession favorites.

Not exactly going into March strong once again.
