*** Official #16 Texas Tech vs #4 IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

IMO tech would have beat anyone in the country shooting like that today. One of those games you just shrug and move on from. Reminds me of the BYU game last year. They are just one of those teams that if the 3 ball is working they can win any game and if it’s not working they will lose badly. I would not pick them to advance far in the tourney.

Agreed, but I am disappointed that part of our strategy early on (or at least our execution of it) actually GAVE them those open looks from three based on our traps. So imo we had a role to play on why they made so many.
I agree, but how do you stop or really guard a player when they pull up 5 or more feet behind the arc and are still knocking them down? Its seemed like the entire game, TT would run clock and then hit the shot or get the rebound if they missed. We out rebounded them, but there were times it sure did not seem like it.

I am starting to think we would be better off not getting the double bye and have one game under our belt when we play one of the top four teams.

I feel like it's effective against really bad teams...any competent team exposes us night in and night out
Our packline defense is the reason we are 24-5 and ranked in the top 5. I don't think overhauling the defense because a team got hot against us is the answer. Our defense is overwhelms our opponents most of the time. Maybe the coaches should put an emphasis on closing out on the shooters this week

You modify your damn defense to stop aggressively doubling guys that have the skill to pass out of it! It’s not rocket science!

It's not just A team.....pretty much every loss (which isn't a ton to be fair) is a direct result of leaving shooters wide open BECAUSE of the style of defense we play. Most times, it's effective, but when it's not, it's REALLY not.

I wasn't expecting to go undefeated. We're 24-5. Change the defense and we're an 18-10 type of team. Its not going to make our gaurds shoot better either. This is just like football with the 3-3-5 stack that works.

Actually today Tech shot 17-23 from inside the Arc, so that is what 75%.

I am not really sure what they could have done.. Poison everywhere...

I guess you gotta to live with the good 24 vs the bad 5

A la vs Illinois in the ncaa Tournament last year.

They made the passes needed over and over

But we all knew it was a strength of theirs going in.

Winner.

It works against teams that DON'T spread us out and that AREN'T athletic.

That's why it's a bad matchup against BYU and TT. But heaven forbid we adjust what we do.
Disagree on part of this. Houston and KU are plenty athletic and spread us out and we beat both of them. But it does drive me insane that we don't switch out of it when it's not working. It is TJs biggest flaw.

Not when your offense depends on turnovers and we all know it is .. You have to hope they stop making 25+ foot 3's..

Now I do wish Otz calls a TO before Tech goes on a 20-3 run... That was just a head scratcher

Yup, tj has even said this earlier in the year, Iowa state is very predictable. It's by choice. It's maybe like Iowa football, you know exactly what you are going to get with zero variation. Most teams can't beat it, especially at Hilton. But good teams, especially away from Hilton, especially if you have a week to prepare, like for a sweet 16 game, it's going to be an uphill climb.

Our defense works 90% of the time because we force teams to dribble right into our help defense. We're actually really good at it. Its contributed to a hell of a lot more wins than losses. By a long shot
