*** Official #16 Texas Tech vs #4 IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

I'm assuming this isn't a serious question but in case it is - coaches don't care about the number of fouls. They care - every time a whistle is blown (for any reason), or a whistle is not blown (for any reason), they are fighting/yelling/politicing for those situations to lean more favorably to their team, and critically - at the right time. That's it. Add in the fact that lots of teams (like Iowa State) often foul by design via physical play, the number of fouls called isn't the concern. Plenty of times Iowa State gets favorable rulings and favorable games from officials even when we are called for way more fouls.

Why does Kansas seem have ALL the bounces and luck in Phog down the stretch of games!? Why don't ya ever see a Kansas travel called with like 2 minutes left? Because an official has been listening to Self in his ear for 38 minutes.
Self is the worst. Old red face.

In probably an overly-simplistic analysis, I think it’s as simple as not relying on lineups that have three sub-33% 3-point shooters on the floor. Heise, Toure, Lipsey, and Buchanan are 0 threat from the perimeter (or even the mid range).
Heise is and toure can be.

Heise is shooting 32% from three this year on less than 3 attempts per game. He is not stretching a wing defender from out of the paint.

Defenses would rather pack the paint to eliminate drives and double Jefferson and live with a late close out on a 32% 3-point shooter, which by and large is working. And with Toure, they’re not even bothering to close out at all at this point.

Obviously the ideal solution would be either or both to improve their shooting, but that hasn’t been in the cards down the stretch (and may just not be a reality). The more controllable solution is to play Batemon more so you have an extra shooter to pair with Jefferson and Momcilovic.

As I wrote in another thread:
Toure's minutes have gone down, 21, 15, 18 the last 3 games. Batemon's have gone up. The staff obviously recognizes the need for offense.

Heise is 6-12 from 3 over the last 5 games, although he didn't take any yesterday (TTech). There were a couple of times I wished he was who was catching the pass instead of Toure, or even Lipsey.

This was part of Tech's gameplan. They knew Heise was hitting big 3's lately, so they focused on him, Milan, and Batemon on the perimeter, and sagged off Lipsey and Toure. Any chance we will have in the Sweet 16 and beyond will depend highly on Lipsey and Toure's ability to hit a couple from deep each game.

After some reflection, I'm feel like TTU is an auto fade their next game. A team cannot shoot as well as they did and not have a drop off.
