*** Official #16 Texas Tech vs #4 IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

If we can't get out of the second weekend I'll be really down.

At this point i'm thinking, if TJ cannot get to an elite 8 with this group, when is he going to do it? You have an elite player in Josh Jefferson, strong point guard, and the nation's best 3 point shooter in Milan. This is an important March for TJ's career, it just is.

This would have been meltdown city in the sweet 16 round game, but it's a game on Feb. 28th. Gotta regroup for a March run. We are about to see how 'together' this team is.
Calling Jefferson elite might be going a step far.

I just don’t know any more. Monday isn’t even worth watching, and Arizona State almost isn’t either, for the opposite reason. I just ran an mred that would have you playing ASU or Baylor in Kansas City, then Kansas. gulp. I’d like another crack at Tech as I don’t think they’d get those late shot clock shots to drop in a second game, but at this point there’s going to be minimal momentum going into the tournant. Maybe they’ll at least avoid Michigan now? The “early exit” people are nuts, but what I see now is very similar to the 2 seed team that lost to Illinois
Why "gulp," with those games? I'm fine with ASU or Baylor, followed by (with a win) Kansas. None of those games scare me. Despite today.

Don’t have the money for the athletic types
Which is a bummer - because TJ's style combined with better athletes would be quite beastly.
I agree with the earlier poster - we have overachieved and that is a credit to TJ. 24 wins from a macro level is obviously very awesome!

I don't however see enough confidence that they can live up to a 2 or 3 seed though, unfortunately. The floor is quite low.

Oh I don’t mean the first game. But Tech round 2 sounded great if Iowa State had gotten the 4 seed. It’s too bad today was the deciding factor. Iowa State would have zero crowd advantage playing Kansas, and it’s possible the whole Peterson thing has been load management to have a strong showing in the postseason to end his college “career.”

He'll have whole offseason to work on becoming a better shooter.

Given some of the freshman athletic freaks in our conference, that seems defeating somehow, but that sort of development/progression is foundational to TJ's plan. So, I'm hopeful that next year at this time he drains a couple of those.

He'll never be a shooter. You either are or you aren't. He can make some improvements though.

I think it’s a problem we have to rely on lineups with at least 3 guys on the floor who are sub 33% 3-point shooters. Toure, Buchanan, Lipsey, and Heise are all shooting below 33%.

It’s fine if we’re scoring enough off turnovers/in transition. But if we have to run a half-court offense or match a proficient 3-point shooting team, we can’t do it because we can’t adequately space the floor in the half court.

Those are embarrassing low expectations for an adult to handle sports. Especially sports played by 18-22 year olds.
Are you f*cking serious?

I gotta ask - did you just get the internet? Did you literally just discover sports? Not even joking. Your statement is one of the weirdest, stupidest things I've ever seen on this message report. I have a homework assignment for you. Go to literally any other message board for any other P4 school. Go there during game day. See how they compare to Iowa State fans. Actually don't, you might have a f*cking heart attack.

These young adults are getting paid more in one year than I have gotten paid in my entire professional career. And yes, that very obviously matters. I'm not going to be embarrassed to have some passion in rooting for my favorite team, my alma mater. I'm not going to righteously shame others for it either. Because arrogantly scoldimg fellow fans about their opinions about their favorite sports team would be absolutely stupid and embarrassing as sh*t.

LOL I'm still laughing at the concept - "expectations" on a game thread on an synonymous fan site sports message board game day chat. Holy hell that is funny.

I'm interested in seeing how he does as the teams primary PG/floor leader in general.

It's him or one of our freshmen. Or a transfer. But betting it's Toure. Six weeks ago I wasn't concerned, but since then he's wilted under pressure. Hoping he steps up like I think he's capable of.

We won’t win any meaningful games with Toure and Batemon going 1/13 from the field.

Big 3 were fine today. They got no help from anyone else.
