BREAKING: University of Houston Athletics Are Poor

I feel sorry for ol Kelvin. I am sure having a donor like Fertitta is rough.
Finding funds for Cenac and Flemings was probably painstaking
Fwiw, I don't love this thread being up here. At least maybe word the title a little more diplomatically, at least.

We're only 11 days away from our game and their ppl will be checking in on this board in the lead up.

I can guarantee as much.

Not sure we need to be going out of our way to give that program bulletin board material.

And who cares? Their coach quite literally is the one saying how poor they are (apparently)

Understand that things cannot shift on a dime but these athletic departments that are taking in $150+ million annually cannot find $20m to pay the labor that generates its revenue is hilarious. Coming from the same group that gives away tens of millions in buyout money due to poorly negotiated contracts, gives fully guaranteed coaching salaries after even the hint of success, etc.

Coaches that scream "WE ARE POOR" yet sign huge new contracts that don't give any hometown discount (*cough* Kenny Dillingham) and are getting millions upon millions with guaranteed contracts is pretty tone deaf.

If we are going to treat college sports like professional entities, welcome to the real work ADs.

That's never the impression I've gotten from them. I know you can't tell from the outside, but they sure don't paint themselves as 'poor' in person. More like a Texas A&M (junior?)

Didn't they just sign the #1 recruit in football?
They also have 3 top 20 freshman on the basketball team and have signed high $$ transfers in the past like Uzan and LJ Cryer. They've basically lost no one to the transfer portal either. There is no way they're 'poor'.

All my friends and neighbors that winter in Brownsville drive around or thru Houston as fast as they can.
