*** Official #2 IOWA STATE vs Kansas Game(Day) Thread ***

2014 @ KU?

Our biggest deficit was 14 in the first half, and we closed to only be down 3 at halftime. It was a 5 point game with 7 minutes left. We had it down to 6 points with 1:25 left in the game. Lost by 11. No, THAT game was nothing like the absolute a$$ blasting that we saw tonight. THAT game - against Embid and Wiggins - was much, much more competitive.

The earlier game in Ames that year was also a great game, just couldn't overcome Embid as he was an absolute stud in Hilton that night. But again, very competitive game.

I swore we got smoked

For a road loss specifically? Alabama, 2023. In the last 10 years:

Kansas (2023 #1 seed)
Home: TCU 83–60 Kansas (23) — Jan 21, 2023
Neutral: Texas 76–56 Kansas (20) — Mar 11, 2023

Alabama (2023 #1 seed)
Road: Oklahoma 93–69 Alabama (24) — Jan 28, 2023

Baylor (2022 #1 seed)
Road: Kansas 83–59 Baylor (24) — Feb 5, 2022

Michigan (2021 #1 seed)
Home: Illinois 76–53 Michigan (23) — Mar 2, 2021 (played in Ann Arbor)

North Carolina (2019 #1 seed)
Home: Louisville 83–62 North Carolina (21) — Jan 12, 2019

The farthest any of them made it was a loss in the elite 8. No final 4 appearances by these teams.
Thank you for doing this.

Turnovers happen. But the headscratchers have to be reduced. Jefferson inexplicably coughs the ball up on easy reach ins. Not sure if it can be fixed, but he has to at least be aware that every team is stick their hands in when he drives and hold on tighter/stronger.

I live waaaay outta Iowa.
Most of whom NV local, could give a rat's ass about Hawks-Clones, fb-bb. Hard to debate.
Nut. Being somewhat close to CA, lotta Purdy luv exists...and nary a soul, gives a rat's ass about Cyclone bb sports
Brock luv, redneck-lib, exists.

Maybe listen to the post game radio show and listen to what Heise had to say about that.

To paraphrase "teams have been throwing weird stuff at them on offense to start games that those teams haven't shown on tape before".

So it takes a bit to adjust to that.
Sounds like a good time to start the game in a zone defense or something different than our bread and butter.

Well, dang. I wondered about that. What about #2 and #3 seeds?

The worry I have isn't that we can't start playing well again, nor is it that that we still can't beat anyone on any given night. Like others have said, were 16-1.

My fear was that this type of game was even possible. Most great teams that go on F4 runs just don't have this type of game even with their reasonable range of outcomes. Especially when healthy.

I see a lot of "everyone has games like this!". Well, no, not everyone. Not like this.
Actually several teams have made final 4 after having had significant beatings during the regular season.

When you get beat by 14 or more in my mind is significant

And given KU position in net, they are still top 25

I think we can put the "National Title Contender" thing to rest after this game. Iowa State has looked mediocre on offense the last 8 games. Defense is also getting carved up. Iowa State is turning the ball over more and more as teams figure out how to play against Iowa State's offense. Jefferson is now forcing things. Toure is now forcing things. Heise hasn't been able to hit a shot consistently. I still think Iowa State finishes in the top 4 teams of the league...just not the champ. This team has always felt like a 5 seed that can play like a 2 seed, but only for 1 half. Final 4 is a pipe dream in my opinion. Let's just get to the 2nd weekend without going full Iowa State (where we embarrass our ourselves on national tv for all to see). The brighter the lights get, the more likely Iowa State is to go full nuclear choke (across all sports ironically). It's the Iowa State way.
Terrible post.
