So we can't question Pollard on here anymore?

JP is obviously a smart guy but he can be an autocrat. Didn’t love the Rodgers hire TBH. He might be a good coach but JP making a unilateral decision about the most important job in the athletics department literally hours after Campbell leaves is not good leadership. Even if Rodgers is the guy I don’t see why you move that quickly. No serious business or corporation would hire without doing a formal job search. It was rash and if it doesn’t work out it’s 100% on JP.
Formal job searches especially ones with outside consultants end up of with the worst results. ISU needs to hire a bright young up and comer like Campbell was. They got one of, if not the best one out there who may actually want to be here long term. It's all a gamble, but in my book that is an absolute home run.

Stealing his thunder during a good bye speech to a room full of hurt players isn’t the time to do it if you’re trying to keep decent relationships with the players. It wasn’t the time to do it.
There's a word for that type of personality. If anyone has ever been a on relationship with that type, you know.

IMO it was great. Shows we weren’t panicking. Campbell had left. I look at it as explosive news where Iowa State put their new HC in the same headline as Campbell. Campbell ghosted everyone. WTF kind of guy does that? Campbell has changed since the Pedo State deal. He sold out for money. Good for him. Goodbye. My loyalty lies with the Cyclones.

So when is the right time? An hour, day, week, month? JP didn't hurt those players. This is business, not a funeral. What's JP supposed to do......give them all bereavement time before conducting business?

It won't be popular but I don't think coaches deserve the opportunity to say goodbye. You quit on the team. **** off and leave.

If I have an employee turn in their notice tomorrow to go to a competitor there isn't going to be a dog and pony show to say goodbyes. Their **** is getting packed up and they're being escorted out.

Where did I tear him down? I want him to explain his NIL methods and uses publicly. We got a speech with no questions. That isn't enough and he's a state employee, not above reproach. Never said I wanted to be AD, but I'm sure there are lots of people in line. We just lost a program-building coach. We don't want to lose another. We're not "poor little Iowa State". We have the resources to compete. We've done it. We need to be smarter than the big SEC schools but we've shown we can do it. He's not the only person on earth who can lead our athletic department.
Where is all of this NIL money that is supposed to be going to the football players that isn't already?

Let’s see, the men’s basketball program is currently in its best shape ever and is ranked 3rd in the nation and undefeated. The football program is currently on the best 10 year stretch in history. The women’s basketball program is currently ranked in the top 10 and undefeated with as of right now, the national player of the year on its roster and the wrestling program is back to being relevant again. The only sports that matter and in reality, only two sports matter(men’s basketball and football). The programs are doing all of this with less money than every school in the Big ten and SEC. Not to mention the non Big ten and SEC schools that have big donors(Duke, North Carolina, Miami, etc). ISU competing in the top of all those sports, but then we have dumb ***** like the OP calling for the head of the AD for failing at his job. Jamie Pollard continues to prove over and over, that he is one of, if not the best AD in college sports by keeping ISU at the top without the top resources. The irony of this jack ass is that he calls out people for not having critical thinking skills when he’s the one who has none. What a ******* stupid post, by a clueless moron.
I wish I could give this post more likes/agrees/winners

I agree it is a bad look to quash criticism of the admin.

I don’t agree with refusing to sell alcohol at athletic events. I also think CyTown is going to be a boondoggle. But Pollard has really built up our program and facilities during our tenure. We are no longer the backwater we used to be.

The only criticism I've seen lately that may have some merit is the alcohol sales in the stadium thing (since I'm pretty sure most Big 12 schools do it at this point), but I see Jamie's perspective.

I don't feel strongly about that because I would just get premium seating if that was important to me, but I see how the AD might be missing out on extra money.
I would counter that alcohol already is pretty much allowed in the stadium, just not sold. Ever looked under the seats while leaving the game. More beer cans and shooters than other garbage. If we openly let people do it, why not raise money by making them buy it in the stadium not just bring it in.

There is basically no relationship between the players and the university or administration. It's all about the coach. It's been like that forever, but the recent change is players have been empowered to leave when coaches leave.

If we don't have a coach before that portal window closes, then there is ZERO opportunity for the new coach to even try to retain players. Why would a player, who has no real connection to the university or administration, who doesn't have a new coach to talk to, who has zero penalty for tranfering, and may end up making more money by transferring, tie their own hands by waiting for a weeks-long coaching search?

CW has said Niang told him that if that team were able to transfer without losing a year of eligibility, most of them would have transferred when Hoiberg left. And Niang is about as Cyclone as they come.

The ONLY HOPE to retain players is to get a new staff in place AS QUICKLY.AS POSSIBLE so they can talk to the players before they have to make up their mind on the portal. It doesn't GUARANTEE anyone stays, but without moving quickly there is NO chance we retain anyone.

CyTown is going to change Ames and Iowa State epically.

I do wonder what businesses will end up being viable in CyTown, but I don’t understand the people already writing it off as a failure. A project of that size doesn’t get approved without any sort of market research or due diligence process.

I’m excited to see how it adds to the gameday experience (especially basketball), and it’ll help JTS continue to land concerts.

Totally agree, it’s smart that Pollard had his guy picked out. Some of the NIL stuff (not sure what is accurate and what isn’t) and maybe the timing of the new coach announcement are things of bigger issues imo.

Because there was a rumor that someone said they Old man Stine was going to make Campbell’s NIL dreams come true and give him the old moneyshot. But JP said the money had to go through the University and fund the Rev sharing first so he wouldn’t accept it.

Now, seriously, what’s it take, 5 seconds to punch a few holes in that whole idea?
I think there was a pod where someone mentioned Stine and I think Blum said something about if someone had an in with Stine he’d love to get it.

Not saying it couldn’t change, but when I have heard him talk about things important to him, I would be completely and totally shocked if Stine was even open to the idea of funding college athletics. Like I would put the odds that he was going to create some huge NIL fund for Campbell at 0.000001%.

I think most likely a combination of this, and our dumb fans thinking ISU has never thought to approach Iowas richest person.
