Does the Big 12 want Notre Dame?

Nah, if they wanted to push them in then they wouldn’t give them special privileges and just say you have to be a full member of the conference to get into the playoffs.

The SEC wouldn’t want ND in the big ten so that wouldn’t happen and ND loves their independence to an asinine degree
They are going to wait a few years since the PE thing kicked the lid off the equal $$$ sharing.

Some damn good truck stops in northern Indiana
They even had sbarro. Getting switched to Starbucks. Big stuff. Right off the interstate. Nothing fancy like the over the lanes eateries of suburban Chicago. But honest to god. Both lanes. Family toilets and all.

Alabama is in because "the committee" doesn't hold a loss in a conference championship against you, unless you're in the Big 12.

Alabama was the only team ever to lose their CCG and not move down in the rankings. And Alabama got blown out. They also looked like **** against Auburn. So the "committee" holds a loss against everybody not named Alabama.

I understand ND being upset, but the reality is whether it's a 4, 12, 16 or 24 team playoff a worthy team will be left out based on where that cut-off is.

This year, I felt that ND, Miami, Bama and Oklahoma were all equals. And it's part of what I hate about a Committee being involved. Seems like the last 2 years they try to create drama over the last month by shifting teams to create a narrative or surprise when the final 12 teams are announced.

I have four hopes:
  1. CFB does away with the Committee. Create a computerized poll and let it determine the teams that make the Playoff.
  2. Re-evaluate auto-bids for the top 5 Conference Champs. I would prefer 4 auto-bids, but even then those auto-bid teams need to be ranked in top 15 or 20.
  3. Conferences are too big to just use record, head-to-head games to determine which 2 teams make the Conference Championship Game. I liked the AAC using rankings to determine selection. BUT I would also say that CCG's need to be eliminated! They don't serve a purpose with a 12+ team CFP.
  4. Don't let TV money ruin the CFP. There are people out there pushing for a 24 team playoff. That would be an absolute JOKE. Limit the playoff to a number of teams that reasonable have a chance to win it! Most years, I would have said there are only 6-8 teams capable of winning the CFP. This year I would have said ND, Miami, Oklahoma or Bama had a reasonable shot. But to say teams like: Arizona, Michigan, Virginia, G-Tech, Houston or Iowa- NO WAY.

The simple answer is that conferences need to go away and “Power 4” need to be reordered into 8 geographically logical pods where the winner of each gets an auto bid with 4 at large qualifiers selected by computer rankings. No committees involved just W-L records and data.

Teams that fail to win consistently would be demoted to a tier two division and teams that are dominant in the tier 2 could move up to tier 1 much like Euro soccer. A clear set of rules and an even playing field.

For the Big 12 to get ND, I think they would have to go after another P4.

College football is unique among I think all major sports (at least in the US) in having eligibility for the post-season determined by a committee vs. by game results. I guess basketball is like this too, but the NCAA tourney is so big and so many rounds that every team with a realistic chance of winning it is in anyway, and they at least let all the conference champions in. Football obviously can't play a tournament that big, but there are also fewer relevant conference in football.

I don't know what the answer is for the format, but I'd like eligibility for the post-season to be determined by winning games, not by winning over a committee. Duke is a good example this year. They are the champions of a major conference. If that doesn't make you eligible for the CFP then I struggle to see what the point of the conference is.

Getting rid of conferences will probably never happen. The Big10/SEC aren't going to dilute their TV money. And fans have affinity for their conferences.

But conferences need to adopt divisions. I realize it didn't work for the Big10 with East/West or even the old Big12 divisions. But it seems important to have a group of teams play the same opponents to arrive at which teams make the CCG. Plus we would no longer be talking 6/7 team divisions, but 8/9 team divisions. So better chance a weak link won't make CCG.

The only thing I would add, I wouldn't make divisions static. Every two years, re-balance the divisions based on historical records. Can still maintain rivalries/some geographic basis- but focus should be on creating two equal SOS divisions. Won't be perfect, but better than fixed divisions.

Oh BYU 100% deserved to be in.

The committee has screwed themselves by committing to not knocking teams out due to championship games. It’s extremely stupid but I get why they are doing it. It’s why SMU got in and why bama got in this year. Not a fan of it
Forget last year, you claim tinfoil B12 fans, give us your argument of BYU not being in this year.

I don't think they'll ever adopt divisions now either. Having these giant leagues dilutes the schedule while still getting to chest-thump about how good the league is because the top few teams are consistently good.

*they = Big 10 and SEC.

Don’t have one, they should have been in, it’s just general big12 disrespect that they weren’t in the conversation the last two weeks. I think they would have lost their first game but there is a dollar amount now so it’s kinda BS that they didn’t get in for that alone.

Big12 needs TT to win handedly against Oregon this year.

So tinfoil hats are warranted?

Edit: apologize, think I misread your posts as B12 fans having tinfoil hats.

Nope, because it had nothing to do with losing the championship game, they were out of the playoffs before the championship game. If they won they would have been in and the Big12 would have had two.

Until the big 12 gets a team that is reliably competing year after year it’s gonna be like this. Having teams win the big12 and then immediately fall off like TCU, ASU, is great for parity but isn’t good for league perception.

This is also why going to 12 teams or beyond is stupid. There are only around 4-6 teams each year that have a shot of winning the natty, when you expand it to 12 there just aren’t enough metrics beyond eye test and perception due to how few common opponents there are
